Popeye’s first date with wedding announcement shocks Twitter

A couple’s wedding announcement should ensure congratulations on the Internet. Instead, it went viral due to a barrage of criticism of their first date in a Popeyes parking lot.
The biggest shock to me about this story is that it got into Times Vows.
After a first date at Popeyes, marriage was on the menu https://t.co/P2IgTiznLp

Boston spouses Stevenson Boyce, 44, and Sharhea Wade, 34, revealed in The New York Times Mini Vows section they met on dating app Hinge before they got married. According to the article, Stevenson twice canceled their first date before the pair finally met in a Popeyes parking lot. Sharhea added that the line for Popeyes was so long Stevenson ended up buying a meal from KFC across the street.
The two continued to date when Stevenson dumped five other women he had also dated, eventually making Wade his girlfriend. Months later, during a trip to Barbados, Stevenson admitted he had proposed to Sharhea a ring that his close friend and colleague had bought.
The couple wed on July 23, and after publicly sharing the announcement, it went viral due to their unorthodox love story. One Twitter user received hundreds of matching comments, writing:
Their first date wasn’t at the Popeyes, which certainly would have been a thing, but in the parking lot of a Popeyes. After he canceled her twice. He was divorced ten years her senior and had six wives. His colleague bought the ring. She is the vice president of a multi-billion dollar company.

The bride’s friend defends her Popeyes love story
A Twitter user, known online as Jasmine, claimed to know bride Sharea Wade personally and championed her after seeing negative effects on their relationship. she tweeted:
As someone who KNOWS this bride and was at this wedding, you know that she is happy, prosperous, loved and blessed. She never wanted to get married, but she found an *amazing* man who opened her eyes to an even more amazing life. She’s no fool and he’s doing his part. You are good!
Jasmine went on to blast down speculation in a second tweet.
So sad how you replied and QTed this with so many ASSUMPTIONS who have forgotten how this works. The author has selected and compiled the facts of the story for you to munch on all of them. As much is missing as is usual. But you all keep going.
Roomies, do YOU think this situation deserved so much judgement?
Jasmine. She never wanted to get married but went on a hinge date in a Popeyes parking lot early in the pandemic, kissed a stranger seeing 6 other women in a pandemic, put him in a pandemic after 6 months and accepted a ring he doesn’t have bought, but we fools? https://t.co/jz9UOoiRCp

NYT wedding announcements are usually adorable and ambitious.
The release of the Popeyes parking lot engagement story was meant to humiliate black women and make them believe that settling for mediocre treatment is acceptable. However, I will not be renewing my subscription.— Kia Richards (@KiaRichards_) August 7, 2022
