Pregnant DWTS Pro Shares “Heartbreak” After Season 31 Wraps

Season 31 finalists

Season 31 of DWTS didn’t end the way a pro hoped.

The Dancing With the Stars season 31 finale has come and gone, and many of the pros and contenders are still gushing about an incredible season.

The final aired on Monday 21st November 2022 and featured four couples battling it out for the coveted Mirrorball trophy. Wayne Brady and Witney Carson, Shangela and Gleb Savchenko, Gabby Windey and Val Chmerkovskiy, and Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas each completed a redemption dance and freestyle number. All four couples received top marks in their freestyle.

Ultimately, D’Amelio and Ballas were crowned the Season 31 champions, while Windey and Chmerkovskiy took second place. What some fans may not know is that season 31 is actually the third straight season that Chmerkovskiy or his wife Jenna Johnson finished in second place.

In season 29, Johnson finished second with Nev Schulman, and in season 30 Johnson found himself in second place again, this time with JoJo Siwa. Season 31 marks the first time Johnson has watched her husband finish second – and she expressed her feelings in an emotional Instagram post.

Here’s what you need to know:

Johnson called Chmerkovskiy their “champion”

Johnson didn’t participate in season 31 of “Dancing With the Stars” because she is pregnant with her first child. However, she assisted Chmerkovskiy and Windey on more than one occasion – and even choreographed their final routine.

Johnson was in the audience several times throughout the season and was a cheerleader for her husband when he went to his third Mirrorball (he won with Rumer Willis and Laurie Hernandez). When he and Windey fell short, Johnson felt “heartbreak.”

“For the past two years you have been in my shoes, cheering me on in the finals and being the first person by my side when I walked away empty-handed. Tonight I need to feel what that heartbreak feels like… I wanted it so badly for you and I knew how hard you worked for it,” Johnson says captioned an Instagram post.

Johnson went on to express how proud she is of her husband.

“Every time you took the stage you radiated light and pure joy. Seeing you remind us all who the GOAT of competitive ballroom dancing is has also been a pleasure to watch week after week. Your passion, your striving for perfection, your enthusiasm for “making moments” and making people feel something through your performances make you special. And partly why I fell in love with you in the first place,” she continued, adding, “CONGRATULATIONS ON AN INCREDIBLE SEASON MY LOVE!!! Now let’s have a baby.”

Johnson and Chmerkovskiy’s baby is expected in January 2023.

Fans loved Johnson’s tribute to her husband and are excited for what’s to come for the couple

Although Johnson and Chmerkovskiy didn’t get the end result they were hoping for, they were both praised for their good work in Season 31.

“What a great team you two are! Such an epic routine tonight and a great season for you both.” read a comment.

“I have to say that every season my favorite thing to watch out for is your and Val’s endless support for each other. There’s just something so special and raw about you two!! Congratulations to Val for making this season one of the best!! I can’t wait for baby Chmerkovskiy either.” someone else added.

“Val and Gabby are winners no matter what the outcome! They gave such amazing genuine heart and soul in every performance. I say that [sic] season won”, a third wrote.
