Project guest defends Harry and Meghan Netflix series and says Diana was killed by paparazzi

The Project guest star Jessie Stephens has jumped in defense of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following her newly released Netflix documentary.

The new show, titled Harry and Meghan, has come under fire after critics pointed out that the couple said they hoped to live a “quieter life” by retiring from royal duties just to be in one to play along.

The podcaster appeared on the Sunday edition of Australia’s current affairs program and discussed how the royal couple were portrayed on the series.

“On Friday morning I had been watching all three hours and I love that they came out and sorted things out,” she said.

Stephens said she admires Prince Harry for controlling his image in the media after his mother Princess Diana was “hounded to death by the paparazzi” in 1997.

The journalist added that the couple have never claimed that they actually desire privacy and have the right to seek “consensual” opportunities to express their opinions.

“I loved that they came out and made that clear. In that statement, they never said it was about privacy and it was misattributed,” she said.

‘[People say if] You don’t want to be followed by paparazzi, so why sit down and have a friendly interview?

“Obviously, don’t we know they’re two different things? Can you ask for one without the other?’ She said.

Co-host Georgie Tunny, 31, then said one of the documentary’s big revelations was that Meghan was surprised to learn the royal family doesn’t like hugs.

“The Princess Diaries movie is supposed to show that royals can be stuffy,” she joked.

The Netflix series has so far explored the love story of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, their feud with the British press and their journey to Megxit in 2020.

Future episodes are expected to contain harmful slurs about the royal family.
