The news sent shockwaves through the football world and the sport as a whole when it did announced that Kylian Mbappe will now remain at PSG, with the striker refusing a move to Real Madrid that had been planned for years.

For months it looked like the 23-year-old superstar was ready to move from Paris to Madrid to replace Karim Benzema on a long-term basis. However, to the surprise of many, Mbappe has decided to stay at PSG for the years to come.

A move that will reportedly see the attacker achieve near-owner-like status at PSG in an incredible gamble by the French giants. Mbappe’s whereabouts are huge for the Ligue 1 champions and could also make an incredible addition to the squad next season.

With that in mind, HITC Sport take a look at what PSG’s starting XI could look like next season, especially if the Paris side give Mbappe control over what summer signings can be made.

The 7 greatest Premier League managers of all time

GK – Gianluigi Donnarumma

Despite a UEFA Champions League horror show against Real Madrid, Gianluigi Donnarumma remains one of the best goalkeepers in world football and the Italian will retain his place next season.

With Keylor Navas reportedly set to leave this summer, the shot-stopper for the No 1 will not be tested. 1 position in Paris and Donnarumma can focus on becoming one of the best goalkeepers in football.

CB – Presnel Kimpembe

In our predicted XI, an Antonio Conte could be appointed from PSG to replace Mauricio Pochettino, hence the 3-5-2 formation. But regardless of whether the Tottenham boss is signed, this system change will bring out the best in the French side, especially for Presnel Kimpembe.

The PSG defender is a solid player but in a back three the France international will have more protection at the back and as we’ve seen with Chelsea and England an extra centre-back can go a long way in getting the best out of Kimpembe.

Since the departure of Thiago Silva, Marquinhos has provided an excellent command of PSG’s defence, and this season the Brazilian has taken his game to a whole new level, with the club’s captain impressing in all competitions.

The now 28-year-old defender is at the peak of his career and Marquinhos will play a huge role for PSG in the years to come if they aim to win the Champions League, with Mbappe now set to remain at the club.

CB—William Saliba

The first of just two newcomers to PSG’s squad, William Saliba has enjoyed an incredible year at Olympique Marseille. The defender was voted into Ligue 1’s Team of the Season and won the division’s Young Player of the Season award.

With an Arsenal departure now being reported, PSG could be a perfect club for Saliba as they need a higher quality centre-back and the 21-year-old with the pair hails from the same area of Paris as Mbappe and are both coached by the same people.

RM – Achraf Hakimi

A move to a 3-5-2 system will not only provide some much-needed defensive cover, but will also allow Achraf Hakimi to play a more advanced role at right flank, which has made the Moroccan international such a threat during his Time at Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan.

Real Madrid’s academy product had a strong first year at PSG, but in a new system Hakimi could become one of the club’s most dangerous players, especially in our predicted XI with attacking front-three offerings.

CM – Sergei Milinkovic-Savic

The second signing PSG could make this summer, Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is reportedly set to leave the Serie A squad for good and the Serbia international could be perfect for what the Ligue 1 giants need.

A reported £67m target for Tottenham, Milinkovic-Savic is in the prime of his career and remains one of the most complete midfielders in world football, something PSG could capitalize on given their current options at the position.

CM—Marco Verratti

As with Marquinhos, Marco Verratti has been a constant presence since his arrival at PSG and the Italian has taken his game to incredible new heights this season, with the midfielder being the star of the show against Real Madrid earlier in the season.

With a long-term contract at PSG, Verratti isn’t going anywhere this summer and the midfielder will play a crucial role for the club next season if they finally look to add the Champions League to their growing trophy case.

LM—Nuno Mendes

PSG beat many big sides to sign Nuno Mendes on a first loan deal from Sporting Lisbon last summer. Although many expected the teenager to only play a squad role for Pochettino, the defender has surpassed all expectations and has become a key player for the French side.

Mendes, who was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season and becomes a regular for Portugal’s senior squad, is reportedly set to secure a permanent deal with PSG this summer, with the left-back likely to become the next long-term part of the club’s squad.

CAM – Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi’s first year in France may have been a struggle, but you don’t just rule out the greatest player of all time from a predicted starting XI for PSG next season.

The 34-year-old’s ability to play multiple roles means Messi is tailor-made to play in attacking midfield next season, and the added solidity in both defense and midfield means the Argentine will take the front line can roam freely as he pleases.

ST – Kylian Mbappe

Mbappe is the man of the moment after turning down a move to Real Madrid to stay at PSG, a decision that has changed the football landscape yet again and made the upcoming transfer window all the more interesting.

With 39 goals and 26 assists this season in all competitions, Mbappe has been one of the most prolific attackers in Europe’s top five leagues this season and with the striker set to stay at PSG there’s no telling how far the attacker can go in the coming ones seasons

ST – Neymar

With Mbappe and Messi at the club, it’s often easy to forget that Neymar is still a PSG player even though, just like his former Barcelona teammate, the Brazilian’s season hasn’t been particularly special.

Injuries have plagued the 30-year-old and while Neymar’s future is up in the air at the moment, PSG would be foolish to let the superstar striker go this summer as Mbappe is set to stay for a number of years.

In other news, a £98m striker could really happen to Spurs. He said he would die for Conte – our view
