Radio presenter Kyle Sandilands reveals his exceptional driver requirements for his appearance on Australian Idol

Kyle Sandilands has admitted he made serious demands on Channel Seven before signing on to judge the reboot of the Australian Idol singing competition.

Speaking to the Will & Woody show on KIIS FM, the shock jock insisted his ill health meant he needed special comforts – including using a private jet to get to and from the set.

“That’s just my everyday driver,” the 51-year-old explained as he cruised around in the jet, adding that he was also given special privileges on the radio for “years”.

“When Seven came knocking I said look I still have to do the radio show and if I audition in Perth I have to do the radio show at 3am Perth time and then sit around and watch flops for 16 hours in a frigging ballroom somewhere singing in a hotel doesn’t sound like fun,” Kyle added.

He went on to claim that his A-list co-stars Harry Connick Jr., Meghan Trainor and Amy Shark had to fly economy.

“And where do I get the fun from? I’m taking the private jet and the others are all lining up at JetStar waiting for their apple and tangerine tart or whatever they put on those things,” Kyle said.

The radio personality also gets only the best when it comes to accommodation, but claims he needs fancy hotel rooms when he’s traveling with his fiancee Tegan Kynaston and their young son Otto.

“I don’t do standard hotel rooms, I just do the very best suite available in a five-star hotel,” he said.

“Before that I was at a trailer park in Gosford for a week and didn’t care, but now I have a kid, I have a fiancé, I have the big radio show.”

Kyle added, “I’m not a sane person, look at me you don’t think oh he’s sane, he’s close to death, he’s very close to death. I have to do all these jobs and when I die the kid gets all the money.”

In 2021, Kyle said his doctor was “very concerned” for him because his “blood pressure is through the roof” and warned he could “die right away.”

Kyle explained that he’s tried to eat healthily and actually lost 14 pounds, from 145 kg to 139 kg.

The radio mogul welcomed his first child in August last year and admitted he never really thought about becoming a father until he met his fiancée, 37.
