The Steelers recruit 2 potential CEO candidates
Hunt is the second Steelers office executive to interview for an outside job this week, following in the footsteps of Omar Khan, who recently interviewed with Chicago for its general manager to open later Excuse the Steelers talk to him. But Khan didn’t get the Bears’ job; on Tuesday, January 25, Chicago announced that it has hired Ryan Poland36 years old who has spent the past 13 years in a variety of scouting/HR roles with the Kansas City Sheriffs.
Both Hunt and Khan are seen as potential candidates to replace longtime Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert, assuming Colbert is in fact retired according to the 2022 NFL Draft. That’s one reason why ESPN’s Kimberley A. Martin believes this won’t be the last we’ll hear of his Hunt name alongside the general manager position.
Hunt has been in his role with the Steelers since 2010, after three years with the Houston Texans (2007-09) as a professional scout. Prior to that, he was an intern at Pittsburgh’s professional scouting division (2005-06).
Hunt replaced Doug Haley, who went on to serve as the Bills’ assistant general manager and professional human resources director and later became Buffalo’s general manager. In December 2020 Haley predicts that Colbert would step down as GM whenever the Steelers kicked a defender Ben Roethlisberger decide to retire.
