Randy Murdaugh breaks his silence for the first time since the jury convicted his younger brother Alex

Randy Murdaugh has broken his silence for the first time since his younger brother was jailed for murdering his wife and son, saying Alex is not telling “the truth” about their brutal murders.
Randy, 56, has spent the last 20 months trying to understand what exactly happened on the night of June 7, 2021, when Alex Murdaugh’s wife Maggie, 52, and their son Paul, 22, were shot and killed.
He struggles to picture Murdaugh pulling the trigger and murdering his wife and child, but he said his younger brother, who has claimed he didn’t carry out the murders, is a serial liar.
“He knows more than he says,” Randy told the New York Times about the murders. “I don’t think he’s telling the truth about everything.”
Randy, who did not testify at his brother’s trial, said after Maggie and Paul were found dead, he found it odd that Murdaugh didn’t call people to ask if they knew why the mother and son might be targeted were taken.

“I spent a lot of time calling people every day for weeks,” Randy said, adding that Murdaugh never did.
Although Murdaugh was sentenced to life in prison for the double murder, Randy says he still doesn’t know if he believes his little brother carried out the murders. He said he’s still thinking about what happened that night.
“I was hoping after the trial that I’d stop thinking about it because there’s nothing left to present,” said Randy, who hasn’t spoken to his brother in a year. “But so far that hasn’t been the case.”
Randy has to wonder if he knows his brother since Maggie and Paul were murdered and since he found out he robbed their law office.
In October 2021, Randy filed a lawsuit against his disgraced brother, claiming he owed him tens of thousands of dollars.
The lawsuit revealed that just days before he attempted to stage his own murder in a bizarre roadside shooting so his son Buster would get life insurance, Murdaugh came to Randy and asked for a $75,000 loan.
Murdaugh asked for money to be deposited into his checking account. He didn’t reveal his “poor financial situation” but promised to pay back the money within 30 days.
Within days of this loan being made, Murdaugh attempted to have himself shot so his surviving son, Buster, could claim his $10 million life insurance policy.
The attempt was a fiasco and his story quickly imploded when it emerged that he was suspected of embezzling millions from Peters Murdaugh Parker Eltzroth & Detrick, the family law firm of which he was a partner.
Murdaugh issued an apology of sorts, admitting his years of opioid addiction and saying he checked himself into rehab.
During his six-week trial, Murdaugh admitted to stealing millions of dollars from the family business and customers, saying he needed the money to fund his drug habit.
Before being charged with murder, Murdaugh sat in jail awaiting trial on about 100 other charges ranging from insurance fraud to tax evasion.
After the conviction, Murdaugh returned to the Colleton County Jail to collect his belongings.

Murdaugh after his double murder conviction
He will spend the next few weeks at the R&D facility, where he will undergo rigorous testing before being sent to a permanent state prison. Because he is a double murderer, he is placed with the most brutal and violent inmates in the state.
The life he faces is a far cry from the privileged world of multi-million dollar homes from the coast to the hunting grounds of the Lowcountry to which he has become accustomed in his 54 years.
Through more than 75 witnesses and nearly 800 pieces of evidence, the jury heard about betrayed friends and clients and Murdaugh’s failed attempt to stage his own death in an insurance fraud scheme.
Other scandals discussed in the trial include a boating accident in 2019 involving his late son Paul that killed 19-year-old Mallory Beach.
Paul was criminally charged after being accused of driving the boat while drunk before being shot. The girl’s family was suing Murdaugh for allegedly $30 million at the time of Paul and Maggie’s murders.
The death of his housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield – who the Murdaugh family claimed tripped over the dogs and fell down the stairs while working at their hunting lodge – was also raised in the case. Her son Tony called to testify on the witness stand that Murdaugh allegedly stole $4 million in wrongful death payment.
Meanwhile, prosecutors did not have the weapons used to kill Paul and Maggie, nor any other direct evidence, such as confessions or blood spatter.
But they had a mountain of circumstantial evidence, including the video Murdaugh took to the scene of the murders five minutes before his wife and son stopped using their cellphones forever.
