After being inactive in the team’s first two games of the 2022 regular season despite being a full participant prior to Week 2, Baltimore Ravens running back JK Dobbins is expected to return for a game for the first time in over a year the New England Patriots in Week 3, according to a report by NFL network insider Ian Rappoport.
The 2020 second-round pick suffered a server knee injury in the Ravens’ preseason finals last year that involved injuring multiple ligaments, causing him to miss the entire 2021 season. Before his injury, he was widely regarded as a top contender for a sophomore breakthrough and the team’s running game sorely missed his presence earlier in the season, particularly in close-range and near-goal-line situations.
“You’ll know when you see it, let’s put it that way,” head coach John Harbaugh said in a news conference on Sept. 23, 2022. “[He’s] work hard, i am happy how he works. We have certain parameters that we look at and things like that and it won’t take too long.”
Ronnie Stanley is out for week 3
While it looks like the Ravens will get Dobbins back this week, they will be without their franchise-linked tackle for at least another week. After limited training on Wednesday and Thursday, he sat out Friday and was listed as doubtful in the final injury report. It was announced on Saturday that he was demoted to Out and would not be traveling to the game with the team.
The All-Pro Blindside Protector has been training, albeit limitedly, over the past three weeks, and Harbaugh believes he’s in perhaps the best shape of his career since picking up the sixth overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft from Notre to the League entered lady. The team are taking an over-cautious approach to ramping him up again to prepare for the game after he was limited to just one game last season after suffering a setback in his recovery from a serious ankle injury that required multiple surgeries .
“I really think it’s getting to the point where it’s week to week, day to day,” Harbaugh said. “Again it comes down to him feeling like he’s going to do his best. That’s really what it boils down to. … If he feels ready to go out there and be Ronnie Stanley at his best, then he’ll be out there.”
Ravens announce practice squad increases
The other announcement the team made on Saturday was the promotion of rookie wide receiver Raleigh Webb and veteran full-back Brandon Copland from the practice team to the gameday’s active roster.
Webb signed with the team as an undrafted free agent drafted from Citadel and is promoted to play primarily on special teams for the second straight week. All 18 of his snaps last week came at this point in the game and he finished with an assist tackle.
Copeland originally joined the league from the University of Pennsylvania as an undrafted free agent with the Ravens in 2013 and reunited with the team earlier in the week on Sept. 21, 2022. Additionally, he’ll also play a lot on special teams to add depth to the outside linebacker, as recently signed three-time Pro Bowler Jason Pierre-Paul won’t be available until next week.
