Stefan Effenberg told the German outlet Sport Buzzer RB Leipzig will “damn” to keep Christopher Nkunku this summer – amid reports Arsenal and Liverpool want to sign the £62m midfielder.
Nkunku, 24 years old, is in the form of his life. As for Leipzig, this season he has scored 23 goals in 35 games from an attacking midfield – while also providing 13 assists. Seven goals came in six Champions League matches.
Requirement of ESPN that Liverpool and Arsenal are battling Manchester City and Real Madrid are interested in signing the unsuccessful Frenchman. German newspaper Bild claims Leipzig will sell Nkunku for a fee of £62 million.
A move in the summer was expected by many for a player of such stats, and Bundesliga legend Effenberg thinks it is nearly impossible for Leipzig to keep him. He hopes more European clubs will consider.
“It was fun to watch him. Everything seems easy. He made the difference in the first half of the season. He is certainly on the lists of many of Europe’s top clubs. It will be difficult for Leipzig to keep him, despite his contract. ”
Nkunku shines: Arsenal, Liverpool have a chance to take the lead
Even if he costs a bit north of £60m. Nkunku offers everything you would want from an attacking midfielder. He can play on the flanks, number 10 or number 8 – or even second striker. Goals and assists are numerous.
He’s worth it – especially when he’s only 23. There’s a good chance Nkunku will become a France international in the summer and that will only increase his price tag. Arsenal and Liverpool must move now.
