Real Housewives of New York City‘ fans react to news of franchise reboot and cast.

On March 23rd variety reported that the iconic Big Apple-based series will receive a major makeover that will see the original show “reboot and recast” and launch a spin-off starring previous stars.

“We’re looking for a multicultural group of friends who will truly represent the most exciting city in the country,” revealed Bravo host Andy Cohen. “We are looking for a group of women who are real friends and who come from different backgrounds, races and religions.”

RHONY premiered in 2008 and made stars of Bethenny Frankel, Ramona Singer, Jill Zarin, Luann de Lesseps and more. Some of the OGs will be back for the spin-off with ex-cast members, so this show will have a built-in fan base. It’s unclear if the Throwback series will air on Bravo or its sister streaming platform, Peacock.

However, some longtime fans are more concerned about the new version of the show being made specifically for Bravo.

Fans reacted to a suggestion that RNONY should be recast with younger Bravo stars

Fans have some strong opinions when it comes to the new RHONY. After a Reddit thread suggested recasting the show with “Summer House” stars Lindsay Hubbard and Danielle Olivera, who are in their 30s, fans freaked out.

“I like my housewives to be a little older and a little richer,” says one Redditor wrote.

“Sammmmme,” another I Agree. “Please don’t try to turn housewives into a slightly older version of VPR and this type of show. Housewives are best for me in middle age. “

“I think there’s some evidence that wealthier, older performers are really crazy,” another interfered. “They already have money/financial security, they don’t have to pretend for the cameras. When the performers are young and poor, I feel like there’s less confidence that what we’re seeing on screen is their authentic selves / they’re just pushing for more Instagram followers to grow into influencers. “

Others agreed they didn’t want to see cast members from previous Bravo shows, and many added that housewives should be older women with some “experience.”

“I think they should have the youngest cast member 48 tbh,” said one commenter written down.

“Please stick to Gen X and baby boomers for real housewives. A millennial (Leah) nearly destroyed this franchise,” another I Agree.

“Give me my 40-50+ year old housewives who are married (maybe happy, maybe not) and have 1-2 kids.” added another fan. “I want the big home in the City and an even bigger home in the Hamptons. I want screaming fights where women say the craziest, most obnoxious things to each other and then the next minute they’re best friends. Bring me Bethenny, Ramona, and Luann Season 1.”

Bravo stars have spoken about joining the Real Housewives franchise

Lala Kent

The Housewives have crossed paths with other Bravo shows in the past. “Vanderpump Rules” stars Katie Maloney and Lala Kent appeared in the first season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, and several SURvers made cameos when Lisa Vanderpump was a cast member of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Some Bravo stars have even admitted that they have their eye on a role in the Real Housewives. In 2020 Lala Kent told PeopleNOW it “would be so much fun” to be a housewife. More recently, Kent, who is from Utah, also shared the podcast “Not skinny but not fat”. that she would “love to” go back to her roots and star in RHOSLC, although she admitted her “age” (she’s 31) could be an issue.

At least one Real Housewives of New York star thinks the younger generation is doing things right. Eboni K. Williams narrates the podcast “Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef”. that Summer House stars Mya Allen and Ciara Miller handled a race-related discussion with their castmates on camera was “very important work.”

“I really appreciate those scenes with Mya and Ciara,” Williams said. “I really appreciate her, her positioning and her openness and sharing with her castmates, sharing with her roommates the feeling of being outsiders and different that they’ve both experienced their entire lives as black women in America and black women in very white spaces . As black women in a highly visible white social circle, it was very important work to do there.”
