Recommend Mega Trade Lands Lakers Kevin Durant & Kyrie Irving

Kevin Durant

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant.

A relatively quiet NBA season has just hit one of the biggest stories in years. After three seasons with the Brooklyn Nets, superstar striker Kevin Durant asked for a trade, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. The Nets’ test obviously didn’t go well for Durant but it looks like he hasn’t requested a trade yet.

Kyrie Irving hasn’t been of help given recent rumors that he’s hoping to land the Los Angeles Lakers. The situation in Brooklyn was too volatile and it was clear that Durant wanted to go somewhere stable. It remains to be seen where Durant will end up but the Lakers should at least monitor the situation. They may not be able to offer the best package for the 12-time All-Star but maybe he can be persuaded to make his way to Los Angeles.

Volume’s Jason Timpf traded between the Lakers-Nets prior to the request. He could see the Lakers send Brooklyn a crew centered around Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook to bring Durant and Irving back.

“If I were the Lakers, I’d call Brooklyn, I’d be like, ‘you can have Anthony Davis, you can have Russell Westbrook, you can have 2027 first-round pick, 2029 first-round pick” … throw [Max Christie] and just say, “we’ll get Kyrie and Kevin Durant back. We solve your Kyrie Irving problem, we solve your Kevin Durant problem, you get a chance to rebuild,” Timpf said. on “Hoops Tonight.”

Durant is now tracking heat & sun

The Lakers are definitely a long-term option if they hope to get Durant. Every team in the NBA is probably trying to figure out how to get him right now. Early favorites are the Phoenix Suns and the Miami Heat, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Wojnarowski listed the Suns and Heat as the team “on top of” Durant’s wish list. That means there are more teams on the roster. There’s no reason to believe he’s dying to play in Los Angeles but playing with LeBron James could appeal to the superstar.

Does Durant still want to play with Irving?

The trio of LeBron, Durant and Irving may be the greatest trio in NBA history. However, more information needs to be released before Timpf’s commercial proposal can be considered. Two picks in the first round, Christie, Westbrook and Davis weren’t the worst run for Durant and Irving. A duo of Davis and Ben Simmons keep the Nets relevant in the Eastern Conference.

The problem is that Durant might not be excited about the idea of playing with Irving again. The two were friends, but Irving gave Durant a headache in just three short years together. He may not want to play with the star seven times in a row. A deal around Durant for Davis could still attract the Nets but Irving will likely need to be disqualified. It is also possible that Durant’s exit opens the door to a trade centered around Irving and Westbrook. Either way, this whole situation could help the Lakers even if they don’t get both Durant and Irving.
