Release date is set for 2023 with new OAV next summer

Dr Stone has officially been renewed for season 3 and although sadly it won’t release worldwide until 2023, a new special episode is being released!

The annual Jump Festa event in Japan brings a ton of news, announcements, and trailers for upcoming anime projects.

However, the big reveal for the Dr Stone series was actually made in the build-up to the event, which will also feature a Senku panel on Monday.

Unfortunately, that’s both good and bad news for fans of the hit series, with new information about both Dr Stone season 3 and the OAV being shared.

Dr Stone renewed for season 3…

Good news for fans of Dr Stone, the anime has been officially renewed for season 3 by production studio TMS/8PAN.

The notification was actually made on March 25, via social media, just hours before the season 2 finale premiered. However, many fans will be shocked by this information.

Anime innovation often depends on two factors; ubiquity and availability of resources – fortunately, Senku has these in abundance.

Currently, Dr Stone is scoring an amazing 8.2/10 on IMDB, 8.3 / 10 over MyAnimeList and 4.7 / 5 over Crunchyroll – easy enough to renew at least one more season.

There are also plenty of source material from the manga to adapt to more anime seasons. Based on Monsters and Criticism, season 2 ended at chapter 83 (Episode 10).

The good news for fans is that at the time of writing, 222 chapters of Dr Stone have been published, with Volume 24 set to be released in January 2022.

Considering the amount of material left to adapt and the popularity of the series, it is always a “ten billion percent” guarantee that Dr Stone will be refreshed for season 3.

Dr Stone season 3: Release date…

Unfortunately, fans of the popular anime are having a long wait, with season 3 slated for release in 2023.

This was reported by Weekly Shonen Jump Twitter site, as well as endorsed by popular and generally trusted leakers SugoiLITE.

A specific release date has not been revealed, but it is expected that the anime series will return on the winter broadcast medium (January 2023), as well as a second season.

The good news is that more Dr Stone content is being produced by TMS/8PAN – see below.

A special episode will premiere next summer…

As reported by both Weekly Shonen Jump and SugoiLITE Twitter pages, a special episode of Dr Stone is in development.

The episode is titled ‘TVSP Ryusui’ and focuses on introducing Ryusui Nanami, a key character in the upcoming third anime season.

Ryusui will reported voiced by Ryota Suzuki, who played Yu Ishigami in Kaguya-sama, Arai in Boruto and Yukimaru in Fena: Pirate Princess.

TVSP Ryusui will release in the summer of 2022 but again, a specific release date has not been shared.

However, the episode is expected to be released via the Crunchyroll platform, which has emulated both previous installments of the series.

This article will be updated as soon as more information about Dr Stone season 3 is officially confirmed.
