Liverpool have been contacted by Arsenal player Bukayo Saka – and Reds correspondent Neil Jones has backed those claims in recent days.
The Reds have just launched a winger with Luis Diaz following a big-ticket move from Porto.
There could be more to it than that if there were questions about the futures of both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah at Anfield.
Both Mane and Salah are out of contract in 2023 and there seems to be little move on new ideas for now.
Diaz can replace Mane on the left in terms of cutting in with his right foot, and Saka can be seen as a player cutting in from the left like Salah.
Saka, 20, has become interesting since joining the Arsenal team under Unai Emery.
Now a regular for England internationally, Saka has scored six goals and provided four assists in 21 matches for Arsenal this season.
Saka signed for Arsenal in June 2024, meaning the Gunners are not under any immediate pressure to sell their homegrown winger.
However, Arsenal will need to show Saka that he can achieve everything he wants with the Gunners rather than move elsewhere.
ESPN reported Just a few days ago, Liverpool were monitoring Saka and could make a move if Arsenal are absent from the top four this season.
Now, Goal’s Liverpool correspondent Neil Jones told The Redmen TV that Liverpool really liked Saka.
Jones added that Saka’s plight could be similar to that of Harry Kane or Raheem Sterling in recent years, with Liverpool appearing to be stalking Saka should Arsenal fail to return to the Champions League.
“Liverpool likes him. I think that came back when he was in Arsenal’s youth team,” Jones said. “He is an excellent player. The first leg he played at Anfield was a performance. He really impressed a lot of people, a lot of Liverpool fans, I’m sure, that night. If he’s out of contract with Arsenal then of course Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, every club in Europe will be looking at that.”
“Surname [Arsenal] really need to be in the Champions League this summer. If they do, they will make a huge splash to bring in a few players who can take them to the next level. If they don’t, it will suddenly become a Harry Kane-like situation – ‘he is our own’, but how long will he sit and scratch in the Europa Conference League? No different from Raheem Sterling at Liverpool,” he added.
