It’s official: Jen Shah from The real housewives of Salt Lake City received a 78-month sentence in her high-profile wire fraud case.
The news broke at a courthouse in New York City on Friday, according to live coverage of NBC News. In addition to her 6.5-year sentence, Jen has five years of supervised release.
What the lawyers had to say about Jen Shah
Whilst speaking in court, Jen’s defense attorney spoke about the events leading up to this point.
When RHOSLC Fans will know, Jen has firmly maintained her innocence on the show, with her Season 2 tagline: “The only thing I’m guilty of is being shah-mazing.” Also, speculation she cheated on seniors, saying, “I’m innocent!” Jen firmly denied.

She maintained this stance until she pleaded guilty to refer scams in July, after which Bravo began distancing himself from Shah.
Regarding her initial declarations of innocence, attorney Priya Chaudhry stated that Jen was “lost in an echo chamber of her own denial for months.” However, the attorney says Jen is now ready to “pay her debt to society.”
“Every day since she pleaded guilty she has read names and prayed for forgiveness, but she cannot forgive herself. She understands that she cannot undo these things and the things she has done to her families, but she recognizes that justice is at stake today.”
As for prosecutors, attorney Robert Sobelman detained Jen, stating that she “worked hard to make that much money for herself at the expense of vulnerable people.”
Sobelman also doubled down on recommending a 10-year sentence, saying, “We think a 120-month sentence would be appropriate.” Meanwhile, Jen’s attorneys were seeking a three-year sentence.

Ultimately, Judge Sidney Stein sentenced Jen to 6.5 years, acknowledging that bravolebrity caused “financial and emotional devastation” to innocent people.
“I don’t know if she appreciates the damage she’s caused. I hope she did, I heard the words. These people have no way of being fed again…if they are financially, they won’t be emotionally.”
Stein also wished Jen well as she prepares to serve her sentence.
“I wish you luck. I know you can move on from this and when you get out you can rebuild your life.”
Shah was then able to speak, and she reflected on her family upbringing, which focused on “mutual respect, honoring commitments, humility and generosity, loyalty and respect.”
“I have to come to terms with the fact that I violated those core values and I am deeply sorry for what I did.”
Specifically, Jen vowed to “pay full compensation to all victims.”
“I would like to apologize to all victims and families and I take full responsibility for the damage I have caused and will pay full compensation to all victims. I recognize that some of you have lost hundreds and others thousands and I promise to pay you back.”
Shah has not made any further statements after the sentencing and is due to appear on February 17. While she asked to be taken to a facility in Texas, it’s currently unclear exactly where Jen will be serving her sentence.
