Rising demand, rising prices boost profits for US steelmakers

According to the steelmaker, demand is recovering after a slump earlier this year, driven by booming construction and heavy equipment industries and slow-growing auto production.

Despite higher raw material costs sparked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, steel company executives said rapidly rising steel prices enabled companies to post better-than-expected profits in the first quarter of the year.
