in the video, Bellew said to Quiñones, the man at the register, “Imagine, damn mom, you’re unemployed.” She said she’s been in the city for 55 years and that her grandparents were also from the city.
“You want the Spanish on your TV?” she asked. When Quiñones asked what was wrong with that, Bellew replied, “What’s wrong with that is that you’re not American, dude.” She said she would “fuck you get the fuck out of our town, okay, fuck you.” Give me my money back. I don’t give my money to illegal immigrants. You are in America; you should be able to speak english You have Spanish on your TV. This is an affair with Americans, dude.”
Bellew repeatedly insisted she wanted her money back, telling Quiñones, “You don’t understand. You are an ignoramus, you are.”
At one point, she said, “You probably don’t even know what that means.”
It was at this point that Bellew noticed that a staff member was recording her. The clerk said, “You are a racist.”
“You are a victim. I’m american. You’re the racist,” Bellew replied.
She also told them, “I’ve been here for over 100 years. You’re racist honey, very racist. I want a refund.”
Bellew then began recording the scene on her own phone, saying, “I’m being bullied by these people.” She claimed they “filmed me because I’m white, you see that? They call me a racist because I’m white.”
“No, we call you a racist because you are a racist,” said one worker.
“I’m with Amy and I’m being videotaped because I’m white and they want to call me racist,” Bellew said as she recorded the scene. “I’m simply asking for a refund because their food is terrible.”
The clerk interjected that Bellew had said she wanted a refund “because we play Spanish on a TV” before she began recording.
Bellew replied, “None of them are white. Why don’t you give me a balance on my credit card? I don’t want your food.”
Rita Bellew has been accused of going on a “profane, racially fueled tirade”.
According to a published press release on the Borough of Hatboro Facebook page: “Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Hatboro Police Commissioner James E. Gardner announce that Rita Bellew, 55, of Hatboro, PA, has been subpoenaed for ethnic intimidation and harassment after a disturbance occurred at Amy’s Family Pizzeria on Block 300 of South York Road in Hatboro on February 23, 2023.”
The press release said Hatboro Police “were dispatched to the restaurant at approximately 5:55 p.m. on February 23, 2023 to report a disturbance. Police de-escalated the disorder Bellew was involved in and refused to allow staff video to capture Bellew before police arrived. The video shows Bellew berating the restaurant’s staff in a profane, racially-fueled tirade. Bellew was apparently triggered, at least in part, by a Spanish program being shown on TV at the restaurant.”
The publication went on to say that “charges of ethnic intimidation and harassment were filed in District Judge Paul N. Leo’s office today and Bellew must answer those charges. The date and time of a preliminary hearing will be determined by the court. The case is being pursued by Assistant District Attorney Tanner Beck.”
“The Hatboro Police Department responded to a reported disturbance at Amy’s Family Pizzeria on the 300 Block of S. York Road last night. The police came and de-escalated the dispute with the customer.” Hatboro Police wrote in a previous press release.
“All those involved were identified by police at the scene last night. Police are reviewing video of the incident and the investigation is ongoing.”
Rita Bellew eventually apologized, saying, “I don’t want to apologize,” reports said

The Inquirer reported that the newspaper contacted Bellew and she “misrepresented herself as a family member and later said she was concerned for her safety.”
According to the Inquirer, when the newspaper contacted Bellew for the second time, the newspaper said: “I am deeply sorry. I don’t want to make excuses.”
“When we watched the video, it was really over the top. It was a racist, profane tirade against their heritage and will not be tolerated,” Hatboro Police Chief James Gardner told ABC 3.
