Robert Crimo III is accused of being the mass shooter at a July 4th parade in Highland Park, Illinois.

According to Fox News, a dog unit searched for the shooter, who remained at large. Robert E. Crimo III is the middle-initial suspect’s name. He also goes by the name Bobby Crimo.

Crimo, 22, is believed to be driving a silver 2010 Honda Fit, Illinois license plate DM80653, authorities said.

In a press conference, Officer Chris O’Neill said the mass shooting was an “active shooter” incident that was accidental in nature. O’Neill described the suspect as a white male, aged 18 to 20, with “longer black hair, a small build and a white or blue T-shirt”. A firearm was seized at the scene

Shooting reports were preliminary and unfolded just before 11am Fox News reports that several people are “feared dead”.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that one of their reporters “saw blankets being placed over three bloodied bodies. Other people who ran were visibly bloody.” The police have not yet released any information about the dead and injured.

The mass shooting occurred in an affluent suburb on Chicago’s North Shore.

Elyssa Kaufman, producer of CBS 2 Digital, “was near the scene when she heard what sounded like gunshots.” according to CBS News.

Other videos also emerged from the scene.

“Everyone ran, hid and screamed,” she told the broadcaster.


3. Scanner audio reports that the active shooter was carrying a “large yellow army backpack”.

Scanner audio reports say The shooter was “a man with a large yellow army-style backpack.” On the scanner, police described a gunshot victim who was shot in the leg. They did not provide a more detailed description of the shooter.

The motive is not yet clear.

Police said on the scanner that they checked Sunset Foods’ basement once.

A witness told The Sun-Times they heard more than 20 gunshots. The newspaper reported that at least five people were seen covered in blood.

The mass shooting comes as the nation continues to be rocked by mass shootings at locations including a grocery store in Buffalo, New York, and an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.


4. The Mayor of Highland Park said the community’s celebrations have been cancelled

Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering tweeted that Highland Park’s Independence Day celebrations have been cancelled.

“Highland Park Police are responding to an incident in downtown Highland Park. The fourth festival was cancelled. Please avoid downtown Highland Park. More information will be shared as it becomes available,” she tweeted.

Other Illinois communities canceled their July Fourth parades as news of the mass shooting spread.


5. Photos showed an ‘abandoned parade route’

Photos and eyewitness accounts from the crime scene showed a massive law enforcement response and an “abandoned parade route.”

“Response forces are still arriving against a backdrop of a deserted parade route in Highland Park Il. No information on the nature of the incident, which appears to have occurred in/near the central business district.” tweeted Sonny Cohen.


There have been unconfirmed reports of up to nine gunshot victims
