Saleh spoke to the media in Mobile, Alabama and was candid for the first time very important of the attack Mekhi Becton.

He said that the previous overall pick of No. 11 in the 2020 NFL draft is not guaranteed to be a left-hander starting in 2022. Instead, he will have to “achieve it” by defeating veterans George Fant.

Becton suffers from Torn ligament and dislocated knee in the season opener against the Carolina Panthers. He missed the entire 2021 campaign.

That injury forced the Jets to play the musical chair by flipping the Fant from right to left and Morgan Moses out from the bench.

Despite being thrown into the fire, Fant has made more than admirable growth as an excellent curtain guard for Zach Wilson and Jet Airplanes.

Now, Saleh is ready to ring the bell and begin an open-ended contest in the left in February.

“[Becton] have to come on and reassert themselves in the starting line-up,” said Saleh via The Athletic.

This is something the Jets haven’t experienced in a very long time, a first world problem.

With both Fant and Becton on the list, the blue and white piece has plenty of talent in the offensive position.

Saleh is playing this correctly. After Fant’s spectacular season, he earned the right to at least compete for the starting left gig.

Nothing should be given or given to anyone, everything must be earned and that is the tone Saleh set during his mini-shoot with the media.

Saleh also points out that Fant has the “inner guts” to win the job of hitting back. To make things more interesting, he will not rule out green and white outline another ball in this 2022 draft class and let Becton compete with that player on the right.

Both Fant and Becton have experience playing on the left and right, which is another added bonus.

From a fan’s perspective, you should love competition because it makes everyone better. On the same topic, it still must extremely disappointed that a former No. 11 selected overall is competing for a job starting in his third professional season.

For Becton, this is do-or-die time. Saleh has now lit a fire under her tunic and it’s time to put it out or shut up.

In a perfect world, Becton is incredibly talented up to this point and comes out in the best possible shape, and proves the general manager Joe Douglas right to bet to his advantage. If he didn’t, maybe an old Louisville product will not on green and white for much longer.
