Roy Keane slams 24-year-old Arsenal on international duty

Roy Keane slammed Arsenal defender Ben White for his defense in England’s 2-1 win over Switzerland in their international match on Saturday. as he told ITV Sport (26/03/22 at 23:05).

The outspoken TV pundit explained that White’s posture was “completely wrong” during that passage.

Breel Embolo opened the scoring at Wembley when ex-Liverpool player Xherdan Shaqiri delivered a brilliant cross, only for White to misjudge the ball’s trajectory, slipping under and allowing his opponent to go home.

In the Arsenal 24-year-old’s defense, some should look to the likes of Luke Shaw, who allowed Shaqiri to swing in a cross without stopping the wide man from getting the ball into the box.

In that sense, White was not helped and Keane touched on this when discussing the Arsenal man’s defence.

“It’s really tough (international football),” Keane said. “You’re up against these strong teams and sometimes it’s those little mistakes that we’re going to see for the goal.

“He just got caught. It’s quality from Switzerland and they were at the top at that point. We criticize Shaw and the people for not stopping the cross. People like Shaqiri have produced at this level many times before.

“Once it leaves its foot, White’s posture is completely wrong. Embolo has his number, he just got caught. It’s as simple as that. It’s a great finish and he was punished.

“Sometimes you hope to get away. But he got caught.”

White was not actually selected to start the match because it was John Stones who was selected by Gareth Southgate to play in a back three.

However, the Manchester City man suffered an injury in warm-up that forced a late substitution.

It was a day of change for the Champions League chasers as he switched from the bench to the starting XI.

Then, later in the game, when Southgate switched from a back three to a flat back four, White was deployed at right-back, moving that wing up and down in a subtle way.
