A woman in her 20s has been hospitalized after falling from a ride at the Royal Melbourne show.

Horrified families watched as the chaos spread at the Rebel Coaster on Sunday as paramedics treated the woman for serious facial injuries at the scene before taking her to hospital.

Others on the ride remained stranded on the coaster for some time, with the ride shutting down immediately.

The area has been cordoned off while police and organizers investigate the cause of the accident.

“There was a reported injury at the Rebel Coaster ride today,” the Royal Melbourne Show said in a statement.

“We are working closely with the ride operator, WorkSafe Victoria and Victoria Police to further investigate the issue but can confirm no one has fallen off the ride.

“The ride in question will be closed for the foreseeable future and updates will be made as information becomes available.

“The visitor was taken to the hospital for further examination.

‘The safety and well-being of our trade fair visitors is our top priority.’
