Run For Love 5K raises $30,000 for local LGBT center

Raleigh, NC – Nearly 1,500 participants signed up for this year’s Run For Love 5K at Dorthea Dix Park.

This is the fourth year of the race, held annually to raise money for the LGBT Center in Raleigh. Although they had to cancel in 2020, race organizer and Runologie owner Alex Warren noted that “it came back strong last year, and even stronger this year.”

Along with Runologie, 5K was sponsored by Trophy Brewing, where owner David Meeker greeted participants with free drinks and an after-party.

“I think we need to make sure everyone is comfortable being who they are,” Meeker said.

But this community event doesn’t just help the LGBT Center. As Warren explains, “all the volunteers you see on the course, most of them are members of Healing Transitions.” Healing Transitions is a local nonprofit and shelter focused on helping homeless people struggling with addiction.

As one volunteer put it, “to let you know what Run For Love is, you have to know what love is… you love who you want, whoever it is.”
