Russian state TV claims Britain is starving and forced to eat squirrels

A Russian state TV station claimed this week Brits are being forced to eat squirrels because of money flowing to Ukraine.

Talk show host Olga Skabeyeva said restaurants in the UK were “serving squirrels” because of “food shortages”.

She also claimed the British would like to eat squirrels, although they still supply “howitzers” to Ukraine.

It comes after forest management company Three Atop recommended eating gray squirrels to control their population.

But the company’s head of conservation, Kerry Hosegood, hit back at the claims, telling the Times “there’s nothing controversial about eating them.”

Talk show 60 Minutes host Olga Skabeyeva said restaurants in the UK were “serving squirrels” because of a “national food crisis”.

Ms Skabeyeva said: “Today it was announced that some restaurants in the former Britain will be serving squirrels.

“Given that there are a lot of animals in the parks, why not eat them, given the food shortages?

“They do not back down from the decision to help Zelenskyy deliver arms. That means they will eat squirrels but still supply howitzers.”

Skabayeva is one of Russia’s most prominent propagandists and often takes extreme positions on the war in Ukraine.

The UK is one of Ukraine’s earliest and most vocal supporters since Russia invaded the country in February 2022.

It has pledged £2.2 billion worth of military aid through February 2022, along with training and humanitarian assistance.
