Rust May 2022 Update and PC Patch Notes

Developers Facepunch are rolling out the latest PC update for Rust, which will include many new tweaks that will help improve the overall gaming experience.

Patch notes have also been added by the team behind the hit survival title, meaning we know everything that’s in the May release.

All of this will go live after the forced deletion of the Monthly Schedule, meaning everyone will be starting from scratch on vanilla servers.

Below is everything we know about today’s Rust update, including the patch notes shared by Facepunch.

What’s in Rust May 2022 Update?

With today’s Rust May update hit in the face has put together some much needed updates for existing systems. Ziplines have been updated and should work better on PC maps.

However, the Rust PC team has also begun to confirm changes that are planned for the coming months. This includes the new clan system, which is currently being tested. This won’t be ready to go live until later in 2022, but when it does arrive players will be able to communicate openly within their clans by making announcements through the clan UI. There will also be the ability to create custom clan emblems, but much of that could change ahead of the final release later this year.

Today’s May 5th update brings the above-ground work wagon to the railroad tracks of Rust and is very similar to the underground one, but now has coupling points at each end that can be connected to other wagons. The attached trucks have also been updated to rotate more realistically with the track, and the full descriptions and patch notes are below:

carts
The Work Cart train engines, as usual, take inferior fuel. Their target speeds at low/mid/high throttle are constant, but their acceleration and pulling ability are affected by gravity and how many paircars they expect to pull. If your long train can’t climb a hill, it’s possible to use multiple work carts in a multi-engine coupled setup for more power.

secondary lines
The rail network has branch lines that branch off and merge back into the main line. This is all done fully procedurally, with no need for predefined prefabs alongside the rail network itself, resulting in a very flexible system that can cover a wide variety of use cases as we expand the rail network in the future. For now, these branch lines are right where the trains spawn. We’ll see how things develop and move on from there.

Rail and road foliage improvements

Zipline Improvements
Ziplines seemed to be getting good use last month, but there have been too many instances of ziplines not connecting, resulting in zipline platforms with no connections. I’ve improved the procedural generation process in several ways this month.

Deathscreen improvements
The death screen has been improved this month, with many NPCs getting custom icons and correct translations. We’ve also improved how we display your death information if you commit suicide while on the ground. Previously, this would cause the death screen to show your death as a suicide and prevent you from seeing your attacker’s name and weapon. This is now fixed and you can see the details of the last attack even if you commit suicide while prone.

Hapis Island
Some of you have been waiting for Hapis Island to return after last year’s graphical overhaul broke it. This is just a heads-up to let you know that we’re aiming for it to finally go live again in next month’s patch.

Twitch Drops
From today until May 12 23:59 UTC, Twitch Drops are enabled for Rust Twitch Streamers. You can earn special and unique skins just by watching your favorite Rust Twitch streamers.
