Samsung pauses One UI 4.0 rollout for all devices

While many people have experienced no issues on their devices with the One UI 4.0 update based on Android 12, it looks like Samsung has paused the rollout to fix some lingering issues.


[Update 12/27]: After a short pause, follow SamMobile, the rollout of the One UI 4.0 update has now resumed. The bugs related to compatibility with the Google Play System appear to have been fixed. This means that if you have a Galaxy S21, Z Fold 3, or Z Flip 3 series phone, you’ll soon be able to update your device.

However, the initial rollout for the foldable display has only been confirmed in Serbia and South Korea but will become more widely available in the coming days.


According to a post on the Korean version of Official Samsung Community Forum (through the TizenHelp), the rollout of One UI 4.0 is on hold until the multitude of issues have been resolved and fixed. A translated response from Samsung’s official moderator suggests that the Android 12 rollout halt is due to a number of reasons “Google Play system compatibility problem” on selected Galaxy devices. This response also indicates that Google is “content analysis” To help solve owner problems:

The first rollout of the One UI 4.0 update has seen many Galaxy device owners encounter issues and bugs. Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 has been resolved with lingering problems as One UI 4.0 was shipped with some devices stuck in recovery mode while a few handsets even got bricked right after installing the update.

It’s not clear how widespread the problems have spread to Galaxy owners since upgrading their devices to the One UI 4.0 release. By up-to-date standards, One UI 4.0 is a small step up from Galaxy phones, with many of the features introduced to Pixel phones already available. However, Android 12 does not support for the Dynamic Color theme, Privacy Panel, RAM Plus, an improved Gallery app, plus countless UI tweaks and improvements:

It’s unclear when Samsung plans to resume One UI 4.0 rollout, but the initial post suggests that it will restart once “Google’s actions are complete.”
