A silver alert was exhibited for Morris, and controversy has erupted over a t-shirt He wore an item of clothing with the words “I’m a liar” and other comments scrawled on it.

1. Eaton Police say Scottie Morris is ‘allegedly in extreme danger’

“The Eaton Police Department is investigating the disappearance of Scottie Dean Morris, a 14-year-old white male, 5ft 4”, 150lbs, brown hair with blue eyes, who was last seen wearing black shoes, red and black shorts and a white T-shirt. Shirt with writing on the front,” says Silver Alert.

Scottie is missing from Eaton, Indiana, 76 miles northeast of Indianapolis and was last seen at 8:30pm on March 16, 2023. He is believed to be in extreme danger and may need medical attention,” the alert said.

“If you have any information about Scottie Dean Morris, contact the Eaton Police Department at (765) 396-3297 or 911,” it said.

2. Scottie Morris’ relative wrote on Facebook: “Please come home to me,” but police initially shared a photo of him in a T-shirt with the word “liar” written on it

Morris’ relative, Mel Sharon Stevens, wrote on Facebook“Scottie, if you’re out there please come home, me and dad are very worried about you. We love you and miss you very much.”

She added, “You’ve got no problems Dean, I promise. Whatever you’re upset about, we can work it through. We’re always here for you, Scottie. Dear mum.”

However, according to IndyStarMorris had “apparently had an adult-onset altercation at his home on Thursday,” and Eaton police “first posted a photo online — allegedly taken earlier that day — showing the youth looking unhappy and wearing a shirt that showed Words were scrawled calling the boy a liar.”

Police Chief Jay Turner discussed this photo on FacebookShe wrote: “Regarding the photo posted on social media with the lettering on the missing person’s t-shirt. This was the ONLY photo EPD was given to display and it was posted quickly to find Scottie as soon as possible.”

He added: “EPD officers came looking for Scottie Morris in their spare time and are still working hard to find him. We are very sorry that the post made it seem like we wanted to shame it as that would NEVER be our intention.”

The post continued:

When Scottie was dispatched he had no problems with the department, we felt we were here to help him and it is every officer’s intention to find him safely.

Placing this photo on social media was in no way an attempt to embarrass or humiliate him. Actually, it was displayed as an investigative tool. However, it brought to light the fact that he is missing and is bringing in a volunteer search team to help.

Our only concern is that we find Scottie safely and then proceed with our investigation.

I realize it’s easy to jump to conclusions and comment on social media that everything is being mishandled.

We paused the investigation to release this update as many people are understandably upset at seeing the writing on a t-shirt.

Thank you for all the concerned calls. We are investigating every aspect of this incident to ensure Scottie is safe and able to help him in the future!

Again, our sincere apologies to Scottie as we meant no harm or ill will.

3. Scottie Morris’ mother spoke directly to him in a press conference and said, “I need to know you’re safe.”

Morris’ mother, Felicia Morris, spoke directly to Morris in a broadcast press conference by WTHR TV and shared on the Eaton Police Department Facebook page.

“I love you and I want you to come home,” she said, “and I know you’re angry and confused and I’m afraid you’re scared of all this. everyone is looking for you We’re not trying to scare you. You’re not in trouble.”

If Morris is in a house, she said, he should “put out his hand. Dad and I will come and get you, okay.”

“I love you,” Morris’ mother added. “I need to know you’re safe.” She prompted him to call 911.

“I just need you at home, okay?” she said, crying.

4. Police use infrared cameras and helicopters to search for Scottie Dean Morris

Eaton Police have written about the search for Morris on their Facebook page.

“Many people have asked about a search party for today,” they wrote on March 19, 2023.

“The reason we don’t have one is because we will have Indiana State Police helicopters using their infrared cameras. We ask that if you continue to search alone today, please steer clear of wooded areas, rows of trees, rivers, etc. as this will only hamper investigations while they search in the air.”

5. Police say they performed polygraphs on the disappearance

“We conducted several interviews and polygraph tests,” said Eaton Police Chief Jay Turner said IndyStar.

Turner told IndyStar that staff at Morris’ Delta Middle School described him as a “very nice young man” and that police had not previously dealt with him.

When asked if the parents were suspects, Turner told IndyStar, “We ran lie detector tests and are looking elsewhere.”
