Scottie Scheffler’s victory at the Players Championship was monumental in many ways. Not only was it Scheffler’s second win and seventh T10 finish of the PGA Tour season, but the win also propelled him to No. 1 in the world golf rankings. And with the Masters approaching in a few weeks, things seem to be on all cylinders for the defending champion.
While Scheffler is (inevitably) still celebrating his win at TPC Sawgrass — where he netted a $4.5 million payout — there’s at least one other person who probably also threw up some champagne and partied all night: a sports bettor who has earned money large after Scheffler won the tournament.
According to the FanDuel Sportsbook Twitter account, this sports player placed a massive $300,000 bet on Scheffler before the start of the tournament to win the Players Championship. Given the odds of 11/1 on Thursday, when all was said and done, the bettor earned a $3.3 million payday.

As someone coming to Vegas for a bachelorette party this weekend, I’m trying to manifest that kind of happiness. It’s one thing to win $3.3 million. It’s another thing to actually win more money than the guy who took 2nd place at the Players Championship (Tyrrell Hatton, who made $2.7 million). That kind of stuff just seems to happen to everyone else. Someday maybe you or I will be the “everyone else” that people are jealous of.
Oh, and then there’s this: Tom Hoge, who earned $1.5 million, posted a photo of himself stuck on the bus on a flight home from the players. This sports player needs to poke fun at such peasantry as he or she will likely be seated prime from now on.
Anyone with $300,000 to bet on golf is probably someone who already has a lot of money. But, hey, hearing stories like this is always fun, so let’s hope the unknown player doubles down and throws $3M at Scheffler to repeat it in Augusta this year. At current odds of 10/1, a $33 million payout is just another Scheffler win away.
