The Seahawks can cut veteran cashier Marquise Goodwin.

The Seattle Seahawks may want to switch from one of the faster players on their roster.

In a 53-man roster forecast by ESPN’s Brady Henderson, the Seahawks-beating pen expects Seattle to keep six receivers wide on its roster by the time the regular season opens in September. According to Henderson, the Seahawks will cut veteran payee Marquise Goodwin after signing him for the season.

Henderson said: “Metcalf surprisingly omitted the mandatory minicamp in a clear statement about his volatile contract situation. “The Seahawks are still optimistic about renewing him, but it doesn’t appear to be a crash given how expensive the receiver market has become. If they close a deal, then the top four, Metcalf, Lockett, Swain and Eskridge will be set up. Veteran Marquise Goodwin is one of the players vying for one of the final spots. “

Why Goodwin faces odds that are hard to list

Entering training camp, Goodwin is actually the oldest (31 years old) and most experienced (nine seasons) of the Seahawks receivers. The veteran most recently spent the 2021 season with the Chicago Bears as a substitute, catching 20 passes for 313 yards and one touchdown.

However, as Henderson notes, the Seahawks’ top four receivers are essentially prepped for training camp. Metcalf, Lockett and Freddie Swain were Seattle’s top three collectors last season. Henderson predicts 2021 second-round pick, Dee Eskridge will make the list as fourth recipient, with special teams ace Penny Hart and 2022 seventh-round pick Bo Melton will round out the dimensional chart deep receiver wide.

Goodwin has spent most of his career as a part-time journeyman, starting 32 of his 89 appearances with four different teams. The third-round pick previously ran a 4.27 40-yard race at the 2013 NFL, one of the faster times on record.

The 31-year-old’s peak season came in 2017 as a member of the San Francisco 49ers when he scored nearly 1,000 yards. Goodwin caught 56 962-yard passes and two touchdowns that season.

Considering the Seahawks have reserved their top three spots for veteran receivers, Seattle will likely reserve some of their last picks up for younger players. That leaves Goodwin – who hasn’t acted as a returnee since his rookie season in 2013 and has never been a special team ace – from the outside looking in.

Wright will only return to the Seahawks

KJ Wright is still confirming his return to the Seahawks.

The former Pro Bowler and former “Legion of Boon” member made it clear in a recent interview that if he returns during the 2022 season, it will only be with the Seahawks. Wright spent the first 10 seasons of his career (2011-2020) with the Seahawks before spending the 2021 season with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Via Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times:

“I mean, I love the ball,” Wright said on the “I Am Athlete” podcast on Tuesday, June 28. “But I’m not as ready to pick up and leave my family as I was last year. Because my family had to stay. They didn’t go with me to Vegas. I won’t do that again. And so I think it’s pretty clear where I stand now, how I want to end my career, go into season 12. If it’s not in Seattle, then I’ll be fine. “

Wright served as a starter for the Seahawks from the rookie season until leaving after the 2020 season. The 32-year-old midfielder was named a Pro Bowler in the 2016 season and led the Seahawks in tackles in the 2014 season. and 2015.

Considering the Seahawks’ starting reserve teams are set up for the upcoming season, Wright’s pending return will likely only come if there’s a major injury to Seattle’s current quarterbacks.
