Seahawks Rumors: Proposed NFL Draft Trade Sends New QBs to SEA

Pete Carroll

The Seahawks of head coach Pete Carroll have all their hands in the NFC West.

It remains to be seen who will be the Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback when the 2022 NFL season begins. NFL Network insider Peter Schrager predicts the Seahawks will return to the first round to take out former Ole Miss defender Matt Corral.

Schrager asked the Seahawks to grab pick number 30 from the Chiefs to potentially land their quarterback in the future. The Seahawks had picks 40 and 41 in the second round to use as potential commercial bait to grab an additional pick of the day.

“The Seahawks likely won’t take the QB in 9th place, but I can see them sneaking in late in the first round for a QB and a coveted fifth-year pick,” Schrager wrote on April 7, 2022. “Corral is a Long Beach Poly (California) kid who played for Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss. Think Pete Carroll knows a thing or two about those shows? I can see Corral suing to Seattle. “

Corral is the third midfielder selected in Schrager’s prediction after Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis. The trade allowed the Seahawks to tackle another needed spot at the 9th spot instead of picking a quarterback. Schrager’s simulation predicts the Seahawks pick Mississippi State attacking quarterback Charles Cross at number 9 to help protect any quarterback behind center in 2022.

“The Seahawks are in rebuild mode. With the pick they landed from Denver in the Russell Wilson deal, I see them taking in the talented Cross, who wasn’t asked to make many defenses during his time under Mike Leach but was dominant. in protection surpasses some of the best of the SEC,” noted Schrager. “Cross has had a great combined week and can protect whoever QB ends up in.”

A photo of Carroll & Corral from the NFL Combine Went Viral

Corral will provide the Seahawks with a dual-threat midfielder to start the post-Russell Wilson era. Corral threw 3,349 yards, 20 touchdowns and 5 interceptions while completing 67.9% of his passes. The quarterback also dashed for 614 yards and hit the ground 11 times.

Corral suffered an early ankle injury during Ole Miss’s loss to Baylor in the Cotton Bowl. Under Schrager’s scenario, the Seahawks could get a slight discount for Corral due to injury along with the buzz some other midfield prospects have created during pre-draft.

A photo from the NFL Combine has gone viral with Corral chatting with Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin served as Carroll’s assistant under him at USC, so the Seahawks could potentially secure top information about Corral’s entry into the draft.

Seahawks meet Ridder ahead of NFL draft

Corral isn’t the only quarterback whose Seahawks contacts led to the draft. Seattle met with rising prospect Desmond Rider as one of 30 visits before their draft. Based on NFL Network’s Tom PelisseroRidder was the only full-back the Seahawks had met before the draft.

“Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder will visit the Seahawks today, according to sources,” Pelissero tweeted April 13. “First (and only?) known draft quarterback visit in Seattle.”

If the Seahawks are targeting Ridder, the team may have to pick the ninth-placed quarterback. ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller noted that there are “legitimate rumors” of Ridder being drafted into the top 15 picks. .

“I mentioned Desmond Ridder before, and there were legitimate rumors that he was going to make the top 15,” explained Miller on April 8. “He wowed decision-makers with his His interviews date back to before the Senior Bowl, and he was on a show with his 4.52s 40s in the mix. Ridder, a four-year starter, is considered by some to be NFL-ready, while others have suggested he needs more rep against the NFL-level defense after playing in Group 5 school at university.

“There is a lot of love for Ridder across the league due to his experience, leadership, physical ability and confidence, so a team flipping early wouldn’t be a huge surprise. Keep an eye on the Saints and Steelers as options for him. ” Seahawks Rumors: Proposed NFL Draft Trade Sends New QBs to SEA
