The New York Knicks have had a very hot start to this season. They’ve already made multiple deals and plan to use the cap space they’ve opened up to contract Dallas Mavericks point guard Jalen Brunson for a big deal. But they are not finished yet.

While Brunson has always been their primary target, adding him alone may not be enough to make them a playoff team. Earning more assets and freeing up more space to sign other freelance agents are probably still on their to-do lists.

In this commercial proposal, they will accomplish both of those goals. Here, they will send Evan Fournier, Cam Reddish, and a second-round pick to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Kyle Kuzma. Here is the full outline of the agreement:

Every player in this deal has been mentioned in the commercial rumors later this year. On the Knicks side, it is reported that New York is assessing the market for Fournier and Reddish. Meanwhile, Kuzma has also been discussed in the trade talks.

Fournier, Reddish and Kuzma Trade Rumors

On June 29, Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report reported that the Knicks were looking for potential deals involving Fournier and Reddish in an effort to add to their roster.

“The Knicks have the first 11 picks at their disposal. Don’t be surprised if New York continues its aggression beyond Brunson’s planned coup. The Knicks are also assessing the market for followers of Evan Fournier and Cam Reddish,” Fischer wrote.

On June 22, Fischer reported that Kuzma was also implicated in the failure rumors this season, and humorously, he mentioned it in the same breath as some of his talks. Knicks.

“The Wizards are willing to discuss Kyle Kuzma and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in commercial chats, sources said. New York is exploring all options involving Alec Burks, Evan Fournier, Nerlens Noel, Kemba Walker and Cam Reddish,” said Fischer.

But why would both teams be willing to make this deal?

Why Knicks and Wizards made this trade

For the Knicks, this trade will see them add a solid third or fourth scoring pick who could give them quality minutes at three and four. Additionally, if they can find a deal, it will also allow them to explore trading options for Julius Randle.

But most importantly, it will allow them to get out of their contract with Fournier. Kuzma makes less money and publishes books faster than Fournier. This will give them more space to work this summer and in the future.

Meanwhile, the Wizards will add some much needed wing depth. They just traded for Will Barton, and this will give them a great pair of wings to work with Bradley Beal. Plus, it will allow them to give Rui Hachimura and Deni Avdija more time in the four of them.

Washington will get added depth at the cost of a player, while the Knicks will get the best player on the deal and some limited flexibility added. It may seem like an odd trade, but it can work well for everyone involved.
