Selena Gomez Tells Body Shamers: ‘Go Away, Reveals Lupus Drugs Cause Weight Gain: ‘I’m Not a Model’

Selena Gomez has said she will never be a model as she stalked body shamers while revealing her lupus medication is to blame for her weight gain.

The 30-year-old star – who recently posted an assistant post on her social media – got candid as she went to livestream on TikTok on Thursday to target those who have commented on her body.

The ‘Only Murders In The Building’ actress explained that she’ll be “holding a lot of water weight” due to several medications she’s on, and also encouraged fans to practice self-love, even in moments of shame.

The Lose You to Love Me singer — who has previously been vocal about her autoimmune disease diagnosis and mental health journey — also said, “When I get off that, I tend to lose weight.”

While the former Disney star continued to celebrate body positivity, he expressed that the minor side effect couldn’t be compared to her health: “My meds are important and I believe they’re helping me.”

In response to the haters, she told them to walk away because, honestly, I don’t believe in shaming people for it [their] body or anything.”

“So yeah, not a model,” the cover star told Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood issue. ‘Never will be.’

She added: “And I think they’re great – mind you – I’m definitely not.”

The hitmaker then went on to encourage her fans to practice self-love and acceptance.

“I just wanted to say and encourage everyone out there who is ashamed of exactly what they are going through and no one knows the real story,” she said.

“I just want people to know that you are beautiful and wonderful.”

The Wizards of Waverly Place graduate also emphasized the importance of her health over her looks.

“And yes, we have days where we might feel like shit, but I’d much rather be healthy and take care of myself,” she said.

WHAT IS LUPUS?

What is lupus?

It is one of the chronic autoimmune diseases in which the body makes antibodies against itself and starts attacking them. Lupus – systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) – has a range of degrees of severity. Some of those affected have only mild symptoms, others life-threatening organ damage to the heart and kidneys.

What are the symptoms?

Fatigue, joint and muscle pain. A common first symptom is joint stiffness, especially in the morning. Skin and hair problems are a key feature of SLE – a butterfly-shaped rash across the cheeks and nose is common, as is hair loss and sensitivity to the sun. Other problems include depression and lung and heart disease, as well as kidney infections.

What can it be confused with?

It is often confused with other joint problems like rheumatoid arthritis, which is also characterized by morning joint stiffness. It can also be misdiagnosed as a skin or blood disease.

How is it diagnosed?

If your GP suspects SLE, they will order a blood test. The specific antibodies that attack the body can be measured in the blood. The diagnosis is made when there is a combination of typical symptoms and high antibodies.

Who is at risk?

SLE is ten times more common in women than men and usually develops between the ages of 12 and 25.

What is the treatment?

Control of symptoms, as there is no cure, with anti-inflammatory drugs and steroid pills in more severe cases.
