Senate panel opens investigation into baggage and seat selection fees at US airlines

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A U.S. Senate subcommittee said on Monday it would launch an investigation into airline fees for baggage, seat selection, ticket changes and other services.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat and chairman of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, wrote to the CEOs of American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Spirit Airlines and Frontier Airlines asking for a detailed breakdown of the amount of each fee and the reasons for each fee and the costs of providing each service.
