Sergio Ramos has called Real Madrid ‘amazing’ Twitter after beating Liverpool 1-0 in the Champions League final in Paris.
It was a night to forget in the French capital for Liverpool as Vinicius Junior’s goal meant they could not add a seventh European title to their cabinet.
Should history repeat itself? Or should it be revenge? That was the setup before kick-off.
In truth, Ramos was only missing in the Madrid shirt ahead of the game considering what happened between the two teams four years ago.
But the now PSG defender watched from the stands as his former side repeated history once more on Europe’s biggest stage.
“Incredible, Real Madrid,” said Ramos. “Congratulations on making history again. Congratulations on 14 Champions Leagues.”
THE SEASON ENDS IN A SOUR DEFEAT FOR LIVERPOOL
For a few weeks there was much talk of Liverpool potentially adding the unthinkable and unprecedented quadruple to their name.
But from Manchester City’s insane comeback in the Premier League title race to yet another masterclass from Madrid, it all has seen the Reds finish with two trophies this term – the League Cup and the FA Cup.
It’s still a great achievement because the two trophies shouldn’t be devalued, even if the modern game does.
The problem for Liverpool, however, is that they have been riding such a wave that this will feel like a bitter and disappointing end to the season.
