Like Buffalo Bills get good news about a key offensive player, they get some terrible news about another player.
Head coach Sean McDermott announced on Friday that quarterback Josh Allen will be available to play on Sunday after injuring his foot in the Dec. 12 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But a newcomer started his attack. Another player will likely miss the game after testing positive for COVID-19 for the second time in just a few months.

As McDermott was providing Allen with an upbeat update, he also shared that at the start of left processing, Dion Dawkins tested positive for COVID-19. This is the second time he has tested positive, after suffering a serious injury the summer before the season began. McDermott said he’s still not sure if Dawkins will face the Panthers, but that will be unlikely as he needs two negative tests at least 24 hours apart and there will be little time for that to happen. out before Sunday.
“We’ll see, we’ll see where his situation ends and also where if he’s not there, what we’ll do about the attacking line-up and moving people around. if needed,” McDermott told reporters on Friday, via WIVB in Buffalo.
But McDermott added that Dawkins’ readiness comes second to his health.
“Thinking of him always, praying for him and his health and safety,” McDermott said.
“It’s the first thing, it’s the first place your mind goes and how this person is going to handle it and in this case he’s been there and there’s definitely some challenges there so we I will do all I can to support him and make sure number one is that he is as healthy as possible, working to be as healthy as possible, as soon as possible here. “
The Bills have had several key players put on the Subs/COVID-19 roster this season, including right-starter Spencer Brown and defensive midfielder Star Lotulelei. Back-up quarterbacks Mitch Trubisky and Jake Fromm were also included in the list, making Davis Webb the only active reserve behind Allen.
Dawkins reveals past infection
While it’s unclear if Dawkins has felt any symptoms with his latest infection, the Bills’ manager has been public about his struggles with COVID-19 over the summer. Despite getting his first dose of the vaccine, Dawkins was still under-vaccinated when he contracted the infection and was so affected that he had to be hospitalized.
“Honestly, it was one of the lowest I’ve ever had,” he said. “It hit every part of me. … Honestly, if there was a checklist for [symptoms], that’s everything. It was shortness of breath, heat and cold, cough, that was everything. … I don’t want to scare anyone, but there were times when I was like ‘I don’t know if I would [it]. ‘”
Dawkins has also spoken out about the vaccinations after being hospitalized, saying he is delighted to have been vaccinated and feels a great responsibility for his 6-month-old son being born prematurely.
