A man and woman have been arrested on suspicion of neglect after a seven-year-old girl was found dead in north London.

The 50-year-old man and 49-year-old woman were arrested by officers after the girl’s body was discovered on Friday, January 27.

The Met Police were called to an address in area N16 by the London Ambulance Service and Hatzola, a Jewish voluntary medical service, The Mirror reports.

The duo were arrested a day later and taken into custody but have since been released on bail.

Met Police said: “There was some concern in the Orthodox Jewish community as the arrests took place during the Sabbath.

“The arrests were necessary due to the gravity of this tragic incident and the need to investigate.”

The force later added: “On Friday January 27, police were called by the London Ambulance Service following the death of a seven-year-old girl at an address in London’s N16 borough.

“A 49-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman were subsequently arrested on suspicion of neglect.

“They were taken into custody and have since been released on bail pending further investigation until the end of April.

“Investigations into the circumstances are ongoing.”

The N16 area of ​​London includes Stoke Newington and parts of Clissold and Clapton.
