33rd season of “Fantastic Race” premieres Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount Plus.

The season will begin with a two-hour episode before returning to the regular Wednesday night time slot 9pm-10pm ET on January 12th. New episodes will air on Wednesday night. Wednesday weekly.

While the full schedule for season 33 has yet to be announced, we do know that the elimination schedule will be slightly different this season due to COVID-19 production disruptions.

Filming for season 33 began in 2020, but production halted early due to COVID-19. At that time, two of the eleven teams were eliminated. When production resumes in 2021, two of the remaining nine teams can no longer participate. How did the show work around missing teams?

“I don’t want to give away too much, but we found a way to do it without more cases of no-rejection,” executive producer Elise Donanieri said at a press event (announced). via Golden Derby). “We figured out how to lengthen a leg, things like that. We were very creative. So you will still have the same energy.”

When will the ‘Amazing Race’ Finals take place?

Although the final date for “Fantastic Race 33” has yet to be announced, the races are typically divided into twelve races, with each episode devoted to one stage. The leg ends at a breakpoint and is sometimes removed, though not always. Sometimes, the team last to the stop is eliminated, and other times, they only have to take a penalty in the next leg of the race.

There are usually around twelve episodes per season, but that could change a bit in season 33, especially with two teams having had to leave the race. The finale will likely take place around April 2022.

What we know about season 33 so far

Season 33 of “The Amazing Race” begins in a pre-pandemic world with contestants racing to London from their own homes. Their next and final stop before production is discontinued is Glasgow, Scotland. Diversity reported that the show referred to the production delay as “the longest in ‘Amazing Race’ history.”

As production resumed, the contestants traveled to Zurich, Switzerland, Corsica, France, Thessaloniki, Greece, Lisbon, Portugal, and finally Los Angeles, California. The show’s executive producers Bertram van Munster and Elise Doganieri spoke to Diversity about how they managed to safely continue to produce a show that involves traveling around the world.

“I chose a route mostly in remote areas or small cities,” Van Munster told the dealer. “We looked very carefully to be able to do two or three shows in one country, which we don’t normally do. These are all carefully selected areas where they have the least amount of COVID, where we have the freedom to go into a lot of areas where no one is there. “

The contestants also no longer use public transport when production resumes. Instead, they use a chartered 757 jet. Any locals they come into contact with have been tested and vaccinated. Executive producer Doganieri told Variety that safety protocols don’t detract from the show’s entertainment value.

“It really opened up a whole new world for us in terms of how to do this in a very different way, but with the same feeling and energy,” she said.
