Simon Jordan has explained that Newcastle target Paul Pogba has the talent of a ‘Premier League winner’ but the sustained performances of a ‘League 2 player’. as he told talkSPORT.
It’s perhaps no surprise that Pogba will most likely be heading for Manchester United’s exit door in the summer as Newcastle’s big bags show ambitious signs of bringing him to the club.
Many feel the France international, with a World Cup medal around his neck, should have made more of his talents on the home stage.
But six years after his record-breaking return to Old Trafford, Pogba, 29, is likely to leave for free in the summer, and without anyone in Manchester shedding a tear.
Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan didn’t hold back in criticizing the man on Newcastle’s radar and how his talents differ from the performances he puts on.
“I find it very difficult, apart from a certain disdain for Paul Pogba,” Jordan said. “He makes his decisions.
“If you’re talking about talent. If we can use an analogy to league levels when you’re talking about sheer talent, he’s a Premier League winner in terms of talent.
“If you talk about commitment, discipline, concentration and sustained performance, then he’s a player in the second division.
“In terms of what is required of him to do justice to his abilities. His ability is there. We saw it for France. But his return for Manchester United was bad.”
With their Saudi-led ownership behind them, Newcastle fans will have big dreams this summer.
It will be interesting to see what route the club takes in terms of the players they hope to lure to St James’ Park as many think they will try to make a statement.
A player like Pogba would be that statement but it would be a huge surprise if he left Man United for a team that isn’t in Europe at all – namely Newcastle.
Regardless of how things have turned out for the Frenchman, he still has enough standing behind him to move to another Champions League club in the summer.
