Michael Dawson has claimed that Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk had ‘everything’ for his game, as he told Sky Sports PL (February 19, 22 at 2:55 pm).
The former Premier League defender added that Van Dijk can also defend ‘anywhere’ on the pitch.
After returning from a long-term injury earlier in the season, Van Dijk needs time to regain his spirit in a Liverpool shirt.
The 30-year-old is now starting to look back at his best and is showing his old self at the right time with what is going Liverpool’s way.
Ex-Spurs man Dawson has high praise for Jurgen Klopp’s backline Dutchman and why he’s so good.
Dawson said: “He’s a Rolls-Royce, isn’t he, Van Dijk. “The best thing for me.
“I watched players like Rio and John Terry grow up. But I think Virgil van Dijk has it all.
“Honestly, he’s big, strong and quick. We talk about defenders not wanting to penetrate wide areas. He can defend himself anywhere on the pitch.
“That presents opportunity, we see that with Trent and Robertson, they have the freedom to not have to worry about what’s behind them.”
Many supporters saw both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson drop slightly last season without Van Dijk on the team.
But now that he’s back, they’re back at their best too and are looking for more titles this term.
The race to the Premier League title is wide open again and they have the League Cup final to face Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.
Then there is the FA Cup, with Norwich City in the next round, while they will see off Inter Milan in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 after winning 2-0 at the San Siro.
