Son Who Hasn’t Visited His Mother For Years Comes To Find Her House Destroyed – Story Of The Day

Adam did not visit his mother for years and neglected her after he started to have a life of his own. One day he had to get some documents from her house only to find the house destroyed and abandoned.
Diana Evans raised her son Adam alone. Although she struggled, she worked very hard to support him and pay for his education. After graduating from high school, he decided to attend a university across the country.
Though sad, Diana happily sent Adam away to study and live in New York while she stayed in California. During his first few years there, they kept in touch, and he called his mother whenever he had time.
Diana was never allowed to visit Adam in New York during his college years. Her primary mode of communication was phone calls, and although these diminished over time, Diana still valued them greatly.
When Adam was about to graduate from college, he called his mother to invite her over. “Hello mother!” he said on the phone.
“Hi Adam, so great to hear from you! How have you been?” she said excitedly.
“I’m fine, Mom! I’m calling because I’m finally graduating in two weeks. Can you come over?” he asked.
When Diana heard that, she was so proud and could feel tears coming down her face. She would do anything to see her precious son march to his graduation. “Of course Adam. I’ll be there. I wouldn’t miss it! I’m so proud of you!” She smiled.
After she ended the call, Diana searched for flights to New York. She was surprised to see how expensive the flights were, and she immediately realized she didn’t have enough money to buy a round-trip ticket and a special graduation gift for Adam.
She decided to work part-time as a babysitter to earn money. She babysat for long hours to earn money faster. When she had enough savings, she excitedly bought her train ticket and went to the department store to buy Adam a present.
Diana wandered around the store for a few minutes before settling down with a watch. She realized that every professional needed a nice and decent watch, so she wanted to give her son one.
“Please wrap it up nicely with ribbon,” she told the clerk. “It’s a graduation gift for my son. He’s graduating from a top university in New York!” she gushed.
“That’s great! you must be so proud Congratulations!” said the saleswoman and packed the watch.
A few days later, Diana excitedly made her way to New York. Adam picked her up at the airport and together they drove to his campus, where the graduation ceremony would start shortly.
Excitedly, Diana pulled out her phone and started taking photos. When it was Adam’s turn to collect his diploma, she couldn’t help but stand up and cheer with all her heart. “This is my son!” she exclaimed.
After the ceremony, Adam met Diana and hugged her. “Oh my son, congratulations!” she said as they hugged.
“Thanks mom. It’s all because of you,” he smiled. “Let’s have a good dinner now,” he said, and walked with his mother to the university exit.
Adam and Diana ate at a fancy New York steakhouse and had a nice dinner together. At first Diana was worried about the bill until Adam told her not to. “I took a part-time job while I was studying, Mom. This is my pleasure for you. Thanks for taking care of me all these years,” he said, squeezing her hand.
Diana was in tears. She was so grateful that Adam had grown into such a kind gentleman. “I’m proud of you, son,” she said. “I brought you something too. It’s nothing great, but I hope you like it.”
She took out the gift box and handed it to Adam. “You really didn’t have to get me anything mom,” he said as he opened it.
When he saw that it was a watch, he was surprised. “It’s beautiful, mom. Thanks,” he said with a big smile on his face. “I’ll wear this to work every day. So I always have you with me.”
That night, mom and son spent the night talking, taking photos, and just enjoying the sights of New York.
After a few more days in New York, Diana had to fly back to California. “Will you be coming home soon, Adam?” she asked, suddenly remembering that she was living alone again.
“I’ll try mom. I have some interviews coming up so I’m not sure when I’ll get to them. I promise to call though,” he assured her. With that, Diana nodded happily.
Unfortunately, that promise was short-lived. Adam used to call his mother every other day, but that gradually eased off until the calls just stopped.
During one of her recent phone calls, Diana showed signs of depression brought on by her loneliness. “I’ve lost a lot of weight and I don’t really have an appetite,” she shared.
“You should eat, Mom. Go out and talk to your neighbors and go for walks in the park,” Adam said, shrugging at the signs she would share.
For years, Adam checked in on his mother on and off, but he was busy working on Wall Street and maintaining his relationship with his model girlfriend that these calls became few and far between.
One day he decided to start his own company in New York. For this he needed documents from California, which he could not simply have his mother send. So he caught a flight home at the last minute and traveled to her house without telling his mother. But when he got there, he didn’t expect what he saw.
Her house was demolished and covered in cobwebs. The fences were down and the lawn looked like it hadn’t been mowed in years. He looked inside and saw that the house was empty except for some destroyed furniture.
Adam continued to call his mother but she didn’t answer so he went to the neighbor’s house next door to ask him what happened.
“Hi, Mr. Green,” he said as soon as their longtime neighbor opened the door.
“Adam? Is that you?” he asked. “What are you doing here?”
“It’s me, Mr Green. Where’s Mama? What happened to our house?” he said, feeling both guilty and scared.
“Oh, well, remember that storm that hit California a few months ago? Our houses were badly damaged. Your mother didn’t have enough money to fix it and she said she didn’t want to burden you, so she moved into a nursing home,” explained Mr. Green.
“What? Why don’t I know about this?” Adam said, shocked. “Where’s her nursing home?” he asked.
After getting the address, he quickly made his way there. When he arrived he saw Diana, frail and in a wheelchair. “Mom,” he said tearfully as soon as he saw her.
“Adam? What are you doing here?” asked Diana.
“Mom, I’m so sorry I didn’t pay more attention to you. I’m sorry I wasn’t there when you needed me most,” he said, kneeling in front of his mother’s wheelchair. He sobbed and felt guilty for neglecting his mother for years.
“Adam, don’t be ridiculous. Get out of there,” she said, trying to raise her son. He shook his head and clutched her knees, and Diana couldn’t help but cry. She thought she would never see Adam again, and to see him there, in the flesh, asking for forgiveness made her both touched and relieved.
“I’m so sorry mom. You never have to be alone again,” he said, shaking his head. “I’ll live with you and take care of you,” he promised.
This time Adam really kept his promise. He completely repaired their old house and got his mother out of the nursing home as soon as it was finished. He also decided to start his business in California instead of New York and asked his girlfriend to move in with them.
Since then, the three have lived happily together. The couple took care of Diana and made sure she was happy again. Meanwhile, Diana helped out at home while Adam and his girlfriend worked, cooking them meals and helping with the housework.
