Spanish Football Federation boss abruptly resigns in the middle of ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored’ interview (video)

Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish Football Federation who was under enormous pressure to resign after spontaneously planting a non-consensual kiss on the lips of a Women’s World Cup player during the medal ceremony, has finally resigned – in an interview with BBC TV -Host Piers Morgan.
Rubiales grabbed Spanish midfielder Jennifer Hermoso’s face and kissed her on the lips as the champions accepted their gold medals last month. Hermoso later stated that the kiss was unwanted and that she did not agree to it.
Rubiales apologized and defiantly claimed for weeks that the gesture was made in a moment of “euphoria,” but still refused to resign from his post, calling the confrontation a “social assassination” and a “manhunt.” This is despite several leading European sports associations, players’ unions and prominent figures mounting huge protests against him over the last three weeks.
And then Rubiales agreed to an exclusive one-on-one interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored for an episode that will air on British talk TV on Tuesday night. The British broadcast posted a short clip of the exchange on YouTube, in which Morgan says Rubiales is finally about to do what seemingly the whole world has been longing for:
“For three weeks you’ve been under enormous pressure – you and your family, it’s been very difficult for your daughters,” Morgan said. “Maybe there comes a point when the pressure is so unrelenting that you start thinking about what to do with yourself and your future. Many people think you should resign as president. What are you going to do?”
After calling his daughters, Rubiales said, “Yes, I will do that.”
“Are you going to resign?” Morgan asked.
“Yes, because I can’t continue my work.”
Morgan asked what was the “final moment” that made Rubiales change his mind – “maybe talk to your dad?”
“Yes, my father and my daughters, I have spoken to them,” he said. “They know it’s not about me – and about some friends who are very close to me – and they say: Luis, you have to focus now on your dignity and move on with your life, because if not, you will probably be harmed . “People you love.”
