ONE “Dance with the stars” the finalist is about to receive one of the highest honors bestowed upon commoners back home – Spice Girl Mel B. is receiving an MBE (British Empire Medal of Excellence) from Queen Elizabeth. Read on to find out why and what that means in the UK.

According to a report in Sun, Melanie Brown (aka Mel B.) is receiving an MBE for domestic violence victim support services. Mel B. has been an outspoken advocate after marrying film producer Stephen Belafonte, whom Mel has said was physically and verbally abusive – something she covered up for years.
“I have a duty to lie because there’s no way out in my head,” said the singer Guardians in an interview in May 2021. “You’re living in a nightmare, and then you tell the outside world that everything is okay because you’re so embarrassed, guilty, and worried that it’s going to happen. no one believes me. … I feel very self-loathing. I lied to a lot of people. Then I felt so angry that I let that person get away with all of that for 10 years. “
Since her divorce, Mel has worked with Women’s Aid, “a grassroots federation working together to deliver life-saving services in the UK and build a future free from domestic abuse family”, theo its website.
As part of that production, Mel starred in a short film called “Love Shouldn’t Hurt” where she plays a victim of domestic violence who brings about a beautiful marriage like compete with her friends and family.
In an interview in May 2021, Mel said Sun that she wants to work for Women’s Aid for the rest of her life, saying, “I want to be a patron of Women’s Aid until the day I die. I will always be there and fly the flag. That’s not just my experience, but also about listening to all the voices of other women.”
The singer and her ex-husband are divorced and he denies all allegations of abuse. Mel B. competed on “Dancing With the Stars” in its fifth season in 2005. She finished in second place with her dance partner. Maksim Chmerkovskiy behind the winning pair Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough.
A source told The Sun that the MBE’s honor is “well-deserved” and that her support means more to Mel than any of her accomplishments in the entertainment industry.
“Despite her accomplishments in music and television, she believes her advocacy is the most important thing she’s ever done.
“Not only did she have her first experience with it, but she also met a lot of women who suffered. She really has fire in her stomach about being active. She is very passionate about it and brings a lot of energy to everything she does. She was incredibly brave to speak out because it was such a personal thing for her,” the source said.
What does MBE mean?
Follow Website of the British Monarchy, Order of the British Empire “recognizes outstanding service to the arts and sciences, public services outside of the Civil Service, and work with charities and welfare organizations of all kinds”.
Recipients are announced twice a year – once on New Year’s Eve and once on the Queen’s official birthday celebrations, which take place in June.
It is divided into five ranks, with only the top two earning the title of “Sir” or “Dame”, so unfortunately we will not be able to call Mel B. “Dame Melanie”. But it’s still a great honor nonetheless. There is no word on exactly when Mel B. will receive her honor; ceremonies take place year-round, at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle, according to Website of the royal family.
“Dancing With the Stars” has yet to be renewed for season 31. If renewed, it will return in September 2022.
