Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse poster may have spoiled its biggest surprises

Potential spoilers for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse follow.
A new poster for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been released by Sony Pictures – and it may have spoiled the appearance of some pretty popular Spider-People.
A week after the arrival of the first proper trailer of Across the Spider-Verse on December 13th – which teased many Spider-People itself – this one unsurprisingly focuses on protagonist Miles Morales.
Interestingly, Miles is hanging upside down, which seems thematically appealing that he’ll be in direct contrast to his fellow webheads in Sony’s animated sequel. The poster also features a number of webslingers who debuted in the first Across the Spider-Verse trailer, including Jessica Drew and the Bombastic Bag Man. In addition, it also includes characters that we already knew would appear, such as Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Punk, Peter B. Parker, and Spider-Gwen.
More important than all of that, however, is the reveal of popular wallcrawlers that didn’t appear in the first trailer for one of the biggest new movies of 2023. Before you look at the poster and possibly spoil things for yourself, this is your final warning: potential cast spoilers for Across the Spider-Verse are on the way. Turn back now if you don’t want to know who might show up.
Still with us? Big. First, here’s the official Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse poster:
So who are the popular spider-people apparently appearing in Across the Spider-Verse?
First up is Spider-Man India and Ben Reilly, aka the Scarlet Spider. None of the characters appeared in the first Across the Spider-Verse trailer, and unless you kept up with every aspect of the film’s development, you wouldn’t know they were making an appearance.
Spider-Man India’s appearance was anticipated by some fans – after all, in the film’s first teaser, which arrived in December 2021, Miles Morales was seen falling through Mumbatten, a major city on Earth-50101 from which Spider- Man India originates. However, unless you’ve been scouring the internet — ahem, the web — for Across the Spider-Verse toy leaks, you wouldn’t have expected Ben Reilly to show up. With this duo featured front and center on this poster, fans are clearly anticipating that they will play a major role in Miles’ next adventure on the big screen.
But that’s not all. One sheet puts Spider-Byte – aka the tech-driven heroine of Earth-22191 – in an intriguing position. She stands next to Spider-Punk and directly behind Spider-Gwen. Since this duo also has a big role in Across the Spider-Verse, we suspect Spider-Byte will do the same. Could her story be repurposed to help Spider-Man 2099 create those interdimensional bracelets that allow Spider-People to traverse the Spider-Verse?

Oh you want more? We give you more. An international poster, which you can see above, features other popular Spider-People who may have more than a cameo role in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. On the left you see Spinneret (the overpowered Mary Jane Watson of Earth-18119) and Spider-Carnage, the latter of which last appeared in Spider-Man: The Animated Series. If you look to the right, you can spot another fan-favorite animated character in Spectacular Spider-Man, Josh Keaton’s Peter Parker from The CW/Disney XD animated series, which ran for two seasons between March 2008 and November 2009.
If you didn’t love Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, now you should. Thankfully, the countdown is also on for the film’s arrival, as Across the Spider-Verse hits theaters on June 2, 2023.
