Squid Game Reveals Season 2 Cast Members – The Hollywood Reporter
The most-watched Netflix series of all time, a South Korean deathmatch drama Squid Gamerevealed new and returning cast members for the highly anticipated second season over the weekend.
The surviving stars of the first season – Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo – will all be back for more, Netflix announced at its Tudum fan event in Brazil on Saturday.
Announced newcomers include four male stars: Im Siwan (former member of K-pop group ZE:A and known for film roles such as… The lawyer And emergency declaration), Kang Ha Neul (from K-Dramas like midnight runner, When the camellia blooms), Park Sung Hoon (the Korean hit from Netflix the glory) and Yang Dong Geun (from the hit Disney+ K-Drama Connect).
Following the announcement, some fans on social media questioned why no female cast members were revealed – particularly after model-actress HoYeon Jung’s runaway popularity from Season 1 onwards.
Season 2 of Squid Game is not expected to premiere until sometime in 2024. Like the globally acclaimed first season, the next installment will be written and directed by series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, who won an Emmy last year for his work on the series.
Squid Game debuted on Netflix on September 17, 2021. Almost instantly, it became a global phenomenon, racking up 1.65 billion viewing hours in 28 days and eventually hitting 111 million Netflix accounts. It remains the streamer’s most watched series ever. He was then showered with Emmy love in 2022, earning 14 nominations and six wins, including the best actor trophy for Lee Jung-jae, the first Asian actor ever to win in the category.
