As luck would have it AppleTV+ has an upcoming animated feature film that will feature the talents of several big “Star Trek” names. The project is called LUCK from Apple Original Films and Skydance Animation and its stars include Whoopi Goldberg and Simon Pegg.
Corresponding Memory Alpha, Goldberg played the recurring character Guinan in 28 episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, ranging from Season Two’s The Child to Season Six’s Suspicions, as well as the films Star Trek Generations and Star Trek Nemesis.” The character, a long-lived El-Aurian who was the Ten Forward bartender and a wise advisor to the Enterprise crew, most notably Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart), recently appeared on Star Trek: Picard. Goldberg was personally invited by Patrick Stewart to play Guinan again during a January 22, 2020 appearance on The View. She accepted the offer and reprized the character in the episode “The Star Gazer,” which premiered on March 3, 2022. Actress Ito Aghayere is currently playing a younger version of Guinan on the Paramount+ show.

Goldberg also made the news on April 21, 2022, when NATPE, the National Association of Television Program Executives, announced that she would be among the recipients of the 2022 Tartikoff Legacy Awards. Corresponding meetingother recipients include the “Star Trek” legend William ShatnerHis current Star Trek TV boss Alex Kurtzman, Amy Poehler, Maury Povich, Channing Dungey, chairman of Warner Bros. Television Group, and Jeff Sagansky, producer and media investor. Pegg played Montgomery Scott, better known as Scotty, the engineer of the USS Enterprise, in the JJ Abrams movies Star Trek. To date, he has beamed on Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond. According to the Internet Movie Database, Pegg co-wrote Star Trek Beyond with Doug Jung and will next reprise his role as Benji Dunn in Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8.
Skydance will also ring a bell for many “Star Trek” fans. The company and its head David Ellison, according to the official Skydance Media website, have financed and produced dozens of films and television shows, including Star Trek Beyond, Star Trek Into Darkness, True Grit, several past and upcoming Mission: Impossible adventures, The Adam Project (with Co -starring Zoe Saldana) and the upcoming action film Top Gun: Maverick directed by Tom Cruise. According to the Internet Movie DatabaseEllison is credited as executive producer on both Star Trek Beyond and Star Trek Into Darkness.

A press release distributed by Apple TV+ reveals that “HAPPINESS” is about the story of Sam Greenfield, the world’s unhappiest person. “When she discovers the never-before-seen land of fortune, Sam must unite with the magical creatures there to turn her fortune around,” the press release reads. Eva Noblezada (“Hadestown”) will voice Sam. After leaving foster parents, Sam discovers the land of happiness and embarks on a quest that could change her happiness forever. Simon Pegg (“Mission: Impossible,” “Ice Age,” “Star Trek Beyond”) will provide the voice of Bob, a lucky black cat from the lucky land where the Captain, voiced by Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony winner Whoopi Goldberg stands guard as security chief. Bob becomes Sam’s partner in finding a lucky penny in hopes of saving his happy life.” Additional voice actors are Jane Fonda, Lil Rel Howery, Colin O’Donoghue, John Ratzenberger and Flula Borg. Borg has no prior “Star Trek” association, but fans will surely be amused by his fearsome last name.
