Starfield appears to contain a flashback to an infamous Elder Scrolls NPC

It’s no surprise that Bethesda is hiding a slew of Easter eggs around Starfield’s 1,000 planets, and one of them appears to be a reference to its seminal RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

As reported by PCGamesN, an infamous NPC from Oblivion named Adoring Fan might be making a return to Starfield right now. A video released by the developer last week shows the character creation menu and its traits system, one of which is called “Hero Worshiped”.

It reads: “You’ve earned the attention of an annoying ‘dear fan’ who just happens to show up and chatter incessantly. On the plus side, he gives you gifts.”

To fans of Bethesda’s previous games, this sounds a lot like the yellow-haired Adoring Fan from Oblivion who followed the player constantly after becoming the Grand Champion of Cyrodiil Arena.

The Adoring Fan did not give a bonus in combat, as it refused to fight and instead napped in the player’s ear for the rest of the game. Even if he was killed, he would simply reappear three days later.

Based on the short Starfield description (which is subject to change as the game is still months away from release), the Adoring fan won’t be a permanent thorn in his side as he only seems to make an occasional appearance.

We’ll find out for sure when Starfield 2023 launches, of course, although the game doesn’t currently have an exact release date. We know Bethesda isn’t shy about including Easter eggs, as fans already believe they’ve discovered real-world NASA projects and what appears to be our own solar system.
