Steam data shows Hogwarts Legacy is shaping up to be a mega hit

news

The wizarding world continues to be a huge moneymaker.

It should come as no surprise that Hogwarts Legacy will be one of the biggest releases of 2023, but some recent stats from Steam show just how massive the game’s launch could be.

As stressed by Benji Sales on twitter about a post from January 8th, Hogwarts Legacy is currently the most wish-listed game on the online gaming platform, beating out heavy titles releasing this year such as Starfield and Hollow Knight: Silksong. The game also ranks as the fourth best-selling game on the platform based on pre-orders alone, all five weeks before the game’s release.

Benji-Sales also noted that they had heard that console pre-orders for the game were equally strong, but there’s no firm dates that can be found on that at this time.

The full tweet is below.

The news comes as the long-awaited game set in the Harry Potter universe nears its release after some notable setbacks. Most recently, the versions of the game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch were delayed by several months. The PS4 and Xbox One versions are now scheduled to be released on April 4th, while the Nintendo Switch version will not be released until July 25th.

The game has also been embroiled in controversy caused by Harry Potter series creator JK Rowling. After a series of posts and statements that resulted in her anti-trans views becoming apparent, many have questioned the rightness of supporting the game given its ties to the franchise she created.

Hogwarts Legacy is currently scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. For more information on the game, check out some of our other related articles below.
