Stephen Craigan has accused Rangers ace Joe Aribo of being too selfish at Ibrox on Thursday night – as the Gers progressed to the Europa League semi-finals. During the commentary, he criticized the Nigeria international.
The Gers came into play, trailing the Portuguese side after a 1-0 defeat last week. But Giovanni van Bronckhorst had his side ready and scored from an angle after just two minutes through skipper James Tavernier.
A second came when Kemar Roofe was brought on target and brought down by Tormena – who was sent off. Tavernier scored the penalty. Rangers had numerous chances to make three or even four. But there was a twist.
Braga scored himself and made it 2-2 on aggregate – it went into overtime. Roofe eventually scored and Braga finished the game with nine men. At the beginning of the second half, Aribo circled an attempt from 20 meters wide of the post.
That is, even though Ryan Kent is on the left in Acres. Craigan said during a comment to BT Sport: “He’s making the wrong choice. Players have to be selfless, think of the team – if someone is in a better position, feed them.”
Craigan via Aribo: Rangers win but Aribo should have folded
Had Aribo supplied Kent, the ex-Liverpool man had time to make a touch and find his place with no Braga defender around. Aribo chose glory and missed it by a good meter. That could have prevented the extension.
Aribo is a brilliant player, valued at £20 million. His ability to create something from nothing, his dribbling ability and his passing in the last third are second to none. But his goals, assists don’t reflect that – that was a prime example.
