Aston Villa are eyeing big signings this summer – and Steven Gerrard has been spotted watching Marseille in action.
Gerrard’s men are in poor shape right now; Four defeats in a row mean a rather dreary end to the season for Villa.
Gerrard will want big reinforcements this summer to get Villa where he wants them with transfer plans in mind.
It appears Villa is looking for someone in France as Gerrard, Johan Lange and Christian Purslow have all been on a scouting mission.
On Wednesday night, the Villa trio were spotted at the Stade Velodrome to watch Marseille battle Nantes.
Marseille won 3-2 in an entertaining game but Villa fans will only be wondering who to sign.
The first guess has to be Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara.
The Daily Mail reported in January that Villa had spoken to Marseille ace Kamara’s agents.
However, so did Leeds United and Manchester United, with Kamara out of contract at the end of the season.
Kamara, 22, played the full 90 minutes for Marseille against Nantes meaning Gerrard got to see a lot of him.
Gerrard is keen on signing a new midfielder for Villa Park and Kamara fits in perfectly.
Hailed as a ‘phenomenon’ by former Marseille teammate RolandoKamara has long been known as a star.
Marseille have understandably tried to extend Kamara’s contract but it looks like he’s ready to leave his hometown club.
Already on the verge of a big decision, Kamara changes his international affiliation to play for Senegal instead of France.
Deciding on his next club will be difficult with so many interested clubs but Villa is hopeful this scouting mission will pay dividends in the coming months.
