After seven years, multiple nominations and award wins, and two spin-offs, “Black-ish” is coming to an end. The final season kicks off Tuesday, January 4 with “That’s Friends Are For,” which features Bow (Tracee Ellis Ross) and Dre (Anthony Anderson) trying to make new friends — and in the process, they do. Meet Michelle Obama!

Description reads:

Bow convinces Dre to attend a fund-raising event for When We All Vote in the hopes of befriending some new couples (and playing their part in increasing participation in each election). , but Dre believes there will be nothing but stupid husbands there. make friend. Their expectations were far exceeded when the special guest for the evening was none other than Michelle Obama. To their surprise, the former first lady accepted their invitation to dinner at their home. But on the evening of the special meal, the rest of the Johnsons wanted to take advantage of the occasion.

Then, on January 11, episode two, titled “The Natural”. Its description reads: “Dre can’t seem to hit a good pitch now that he’s moved into general marketing at his company and is starting to doubt himself. Meanwhile, Bow and Ruby question how the new guy Diane is dating doesn’t necessarily meet her standards.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar before wrapping up the show, Ross talked about how great the experience was, especially working with Anderson, who also had nothing but good things to say.

“It’s a great shorthand that we have. There is a freedom to work with such an actor because it takes away the fear. We could be kids together and just get lost on the playground as Dre and Bow,” Anderson said.

But Ross also said she’s ready for the show to end.

“I’m ready for the finish, and it’s also going to be really tough. I mean, eight years we’ve watched kids grow up on TV. We watched Anthony’s beard do so many different things,” she said, adding, “I found my voice. It was there before, but I really started using it in ‘Black-ish.’

She added, “’Black-ish’ provided me with a different and bigger platform. I am always the one to speak up. I can’t do anything else. Sometimes the exercise for me is — maybe today’s exercise is not to speak up. ”

The final season of “Black-ish” premieres Tuesday, January 4 at 9:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
