Submarine found with £72million worth of cocaine and two bodies off Colombia

A 49-foot narco-submarine carrying a staggering 72 million pounds of cocaine and two bodies has been discovered off Colombia.

The Colombian Navy seized the submarine – which contained more than 2.6 tons of cocaine – in the Pacific Ocean.

When authorities boarded the boat on Sunday, authorities also found two survivors receiving life-saving medical attention on a nearby ship.

Local authorities trying to solve the mystery believe the two dead were killed by poison gas inhalation.

Video footage captured the moment Colombian authorities unloaded the boat and laid out a substantial quantity of cocaine they had seized.

Spanish media reports that the submarine was one of three seized by Colombian officials – all said to have belonged to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

The FARC was a Marxist-Lennist guerrilla group that operated in Colombia between 1964 and 2017, attempting to overthrow the country’s government and establish a communist state.

The group engaged in drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping, and other criminal activities to fund their decades-long insurgency.

It is believed that each narco submarine can carry up to six tons of the Class A substance.

Reports also claim that Colombian troops discovered and destroyed a cocaine processing center in a rural area near the northern city of Santa Marta. They are believed to have seized another two tons of cocaine here.

The Colombian Ministry of Defense said in a statement released by Newsflash: “The Colombian Armed Forces, in the course of maritime control and security operations in the Colombian Pacific, intercepted a semi-submersible approximately 15 meters long containing 2,643 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride being transported, destined for distribution in Central America were.

“As soon as the illegal device was found, military personnel found two people in poor health outside the ship. Apparently, an accident occurred inside the semi-submersible because the fuel produced toxic gases.

“The two men were treated and transported to a nearby ship where they received the medical attention they needed to protect their lives.

“During inspection of the illegal device, which contained a large amount of water, two dead bodies were found and recovered with no signs of life. The Colombian Navy, after performing these procedures, recovered the alkaloid, which was transported into the semi-submersible.

“Then the rescued people, the bodies and the drug shipment were transported to the municipality of Tumaco, Narino Department, where they were brought before the Attorney General’s Technical Investigative Corps, who determined that the alkaloid was cocaine hydrochloride.

“This operational operation, conducted with foreign support, prevented more than $87 million from entering the financial structures of drug trafficking organizations operating in the Colombian Pacific and prevented more than six million doses from circulating in the international illicit market .

“The Colombian Navy will continue to use all its capabilities to counter the scourge of drug trafficking structures operating in the Colombian Pacific.”

Semi-submersible Narco submarines are designed to be partially submerged in water to avoid detection by radar and other surveillance equipment.

Often built in remote areas of the Colombian jungle, their design and construction require a great deal of secrecy and sophistication.
