‘Sunshine vitamin’ could lower your risk of developing diabetes, experts say

According to experts, vitamin D could reduce the risk of developing diabetes.
They believe the “sunshine vitamin” may improve the body’s sensitivity to insulin, the hormone responsible for regulating blood sugar levels.
This reduces the risk of insulin resistance, which is often a precursor to type 2 diabetes.
A review of clinical trials found that higher vitamin D pill intake was associated with a 15 percent lower chance of developing type 2 diabetes three years later in adults with prediabetes.
The vitamin is produced by the body when UV rays from sunlight hit the skin, but it can also be taken as a dietary supplement.
The research was conducted at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, USA.
